    Summary



    The NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducts audits, reviews, and investigations of NASA programs and operations to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement and to assist NASA management in promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. The OIG consists of auditors, analysts, specialists, investigators, attorneys, and support staff at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC and NASA Centers throughout the United States.



    Duties


    As a Public Affairs Specialist at the GS grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Serves as the expert authority on developing strategic national campaigns and public engagements to convey complex information about the OIG's oversight of NASA programs and operations to the public, congress, media, and OIG staff. All campaigns and information should reflect the professionalism, values, and accomplishments of the OIG
    • Develops and manages content strategies for social media platforms including conducting analytics on platform traffic, improving social media engagement, and approaches to increase public awareness of OIG products. Keeps abreast of new developments in communications and evolving technology.
    • Formulates long-and short-range communication plans. Identifies best practices and techniques for achieving the OIG's communication goals of reaching the broadest audience and creating awareness and visibility of the OIG's work via social media, radio, print, and broadcast platforms, videos, podcasts, news releases, feature articles, interviews, infographics, brand enhancement and web content management.
    • Works with the Assistant Inspector General for Audits and staff to develop public outreach and/or engagement plan for audit report and announcement issuance, findings, and recommendations. Makes recommendations to the IG and the DIG, Assistant Inspectors General, and Office of Counsel on most effective methods for implementation of the strategy.
    • Develops illustrations, infographics, photographs, maps, and other visual information products that meet visual communication standards and convey a clear, concise, and creative message. Works with audit teams, OIG's Advanced Data Analytics Program, and other offices to identify their needs for visual information products and develops strategies for managing the workflow of requests for services.
    • Serves as backup OIG spokesperson and responds to information requests from the news media and/or general public. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with information and public affairs officials at NASA, Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency; and Pandemic Response Accountability Committee as well as members of the news media, specialized groups interested in the NASA programs and projects.
