Duties:


As a Public Affairs Specialist you will:

  • Assist in organizing and coordinating news media interviews and logistics for speaking engagements for the Chair and other Commission staff.
  • Draft and edit briefings, informational materials, talking points, and other communication materials for internal and external use across divers e audiences.
  • Stay current on emerging communication trends and technologies to recommend innovative approaches, communication strategies, or publications to reach target audiences.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, groups interested in or affected by agency programs or policies and other internal and external contacts.

Conditions of Employment:


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • A 1year probationary period may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

  • FMC participates in E-Verify. E-Verify is an Internet based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) that enables participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of their newly hired employees.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • May be required to obtain and use a governmentissued charge card for businessrelated travel.
  • May be required to file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.

Qualifications:


  • You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
  • A. You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Assisting in writing and developing articles, news releases, and social media posts;
  • Drafting reports, talking points, briefing packets and power point presentations;
  • Assisting others in the use of social media, radio, television, newspapers, fact sheets, and/or the internet within an organization; and
  • Researching organizational programs, activities and/or functions for the preparation of communications to general audiences of directives and the design, documentation and implementation of various reporting systems.
OR

  • B. Have a Master's or equivalent degree in any field of study that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Public Affairs Specialist.
  • OR
  • C. Have two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree, LL. B, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position.
  • OR
  • D. Have a combination of education and experience. Please note that only graduate education in excess of the first full year is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience/education requirement at the GS09 grade level.
  • The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to fulltime work; parttime work is considered on a prorated basis.
