- Utilize accounting software (ex: Abila MIP Fund Accounting)
- Maintain and update accounting records and files
- Maintain accurate record of Fund Balances
- Inspect account books for efficiency and accuracy
- Reconcile Bank, Credit Card, and Balance Sheet statement monthly and annually
- Provide technical guidance and review the work of the Accounting Clerk
- Analyze budgets and create expense reports
- Assist in Budget preparation
- Recommend journal entries to the Controller
- Track daily and weekly cash needs
- Perform vendor analysis and issue 1099s
- Maintain and update fixed assets
- Prepare management (financials) and reports with analysis as needed
- Assist Controller conduct month-end and year-end closures
- Assist Controller prepare documentation for external auditors
- Assist Controller as needed
- Knowledge of payroll process (will be cross trained)
- Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
- Keep Controller well-informed of activities, pending issues, and potential problems
- Experience with Excel (advanced)
- Experience with AP, AR life cycle
- Great organizational skills
- Responsible for compliance with all applicable federal, state, municipal laws, statues, or ordinances

- GAAP Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related experience considered
- 5+ years of accounting experience required, non-profit preferred
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPPA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures
- This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach in confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination
- Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position
- Proficiency in 10-key
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

- Available and willing to travel as needed
- Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed

- Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant will assist in the daily operation of the Fiscal Department and is responsible for day- to-day grants management, general ledger maintenance, Accounts Payable/Receivable related journal entries, financial reporting, and assisting in audit preparation. The Staff Accountant provides technical guidance and reviews the work of the accounting clerk and is under the general supervision and technical guidance of the Chief Financial Officer
