- Assumes twenty-four (24) hour accountability for the management of SPD and all phases of the sterilization process within the organization. Oversees and coordinates supply management in SPD, Endoscopy and Anesthesia sites. Collaborates with Operating Room leadership on supply management in the applicable Surgical Areas.
- Oversees and participates in development of policies and procedures which reflect current standards and regulatory requirements. Interprets policies for staff and physicians.
- Communicates, investigates and follows up significant /unusual issues, incidents or trends. Brings significant issues to the Assistant Director and Executive Director.
- Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing and selection as well as development, counseling, evaluation and discipline of SPD and Anesthesia Supply Support personnel. Anticipates vacancies when possible. Establishes staffing patterns utilizing guidelines that address volume, level of competency and utilization.
- Oversees the review of SPD and Anesthesia Supply Support staff payroll and labor distribution. Ensures accurate recording of time and labor distribution.
- Ensures competency of SPD and Anesthesia Supply Support staff, maintains current documentation of personnel related to professional practice and incorporates this information when reviewing and/or completing performance evaluations within established time frame.
- Maintains level of SPD supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Observes cost containment practices, develops and implements plan for controlling supplies, including regular review of inventory for obsolete supplies and equipment. Participates in the preparation and compliance with perpetual inventory, operating and capital budgets.
- Develops and maintains a system for tracking lost instruments, instrument maintenance, repairs and supplies. Provides the Assistant Director of Surgical Services with reports of same.
- Five years' experience in the Sterile Processing or surgical field.
- BLS certified
- IAHCSMM/CPSPD certification or certification in Sterile Processing Principles or related professional certification required.
- Previous management in Sterile Processing
- Knowledge of Anesthesia related supplies
- Related experience in Surgical Services
- Minimum of three years' experience in supervisory capacity
- Associate Degree
- Certification in the management of Sterile Processing
- Certification in Surgical Technology
