Description
SUMMARY
The Director of Development at Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard holds the primary responsibility for overseeing and executing all fundraising activities while ensuring accurate recording and management of donations for the nonprofit organization.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Development collaborates closely with the Controller, Development Committee, and other key stakeholders to identify potential funding sources, monitor fundraising campaign progress, and ensure compliance with grant guidelines and policies.
Moreover, this role encompasses strategic planning, budgeting, and implementing innovative fundraising strategies to achieve organizational goals.Functions:
Strategic Leadership (20%):
Serve as part of the leadership team, working to ensure organization health and effectiveness.
Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to establish fundraising goals and objectives.
Provide leadership and direction to the development team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts and adjust strategies as necessary to maximize results.
Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities in philanthropy and fundraising.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the development team, and monitor traction and outcomes of strategies and tactics
Donor Management and Retention (20%):
Utilize Donor Perfect software to manage donor databases, track interactions, and generate reports for analysis and decision-making.
Develop and implement donor cultivation and stewardship plans to deepen relationships and increase donor retention.
Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors through personalized engagement strategies, including one-on-one meetings and tailored communications.
Implement strategies to recognize and acknowledge donors at various giving levels, ensuring meaningful and timely recognition of their contributions.
Grant Management and Foundation Relations (25%):
Oversee all aspects of grant management, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, and reporting.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with foundation representatives, program officers, and other key stakeholders to advance grant-funded initiatives.
Conduct proactive grant research to identify new funding opportunities and align them with organizational priorities and programs.
Collaborate with program staff to ensure alignment between grant-funded projects and organizational objectives, outcomes, and impact measurement.
Grant Compliance and Reporting (25%):
Oversee grant compliance efforts, ensuring timely submission of reports and adherence to grant requirements.
Provide guidance and support to the development team in preparing grant proposals and reports.
Conduct regular assessments to measure the impact of grant-funded programs and initiatives.
Facilitate one-on-one meetings with veterans to gather feedback and assess satisfaction with major programs.
Fundraising, Marketing and Event Management (10%):
Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising campaigns, special events, and donor cultivation activities.
Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling donor materials and promotional campaigns.
Utilize data analytics and donor segmentation strategies to optimize fundraising efforts and increase donor retention.
Develop and manage annual fundraising budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and financial targets.
Oversee and direct the Community Relations and Outreach Manager's efforts to enhance digital communication including the VP website and social media platforms.
Additional Duties important to the position that are not part of job effort but rather all-inclusive efforts for an effective position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in a related field; Bachelors degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in donor cultivation, grant writing, and campaign management.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a track record of achieving ambitious fundraising goals.
Proficiency in donor management software, Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant fundraising tools and technologies.
Commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a passion for serving veterans and their families.
Veteran status or experience working with veterans preferred.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
