The CalSTRS Pension Solution Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Financial Accountant II on the Business Team.

Under general supervision of the Pension Solution (PS) Finance Core Team Manager (Finance Accountant III), the incumbent serves as a member of the core project team representing two of nine major stakeholder business areas on the PS Project, which are Financial Accounting and Pension Accounting.

The PS Project is one of several major strategic agency initiatives that are a part of an overall business and technology solutions upgrade strategy.

The goal of this project is to implement a modern pension administration solution that utilizes a flexible technology platform.

The incumbent will act as business leader, work on the most complex problems and have a high level of independence to perform the most complex studies and activities.

The incumbent will provide advice and expertise to division directors and executive officers in support of the project's success.

  • The incumbent performs the highly complex technical pension and financial accounting activities for the PS Project. This requires ensuring financial accounting activities are compliant with pension laws, rules, and regulations. Specifically, this position conducts research, analyzes, and designs business process improvement related to BenefitConnect and aligns ancillary systems and interface needs with BusinessDirect (BD); conducts risk assessments on the impacts of decisions from design sessions to the pension system from pension and financial accounting and reporting standpoints; and conducts, assesses and evaluates business requirements and processes to improve efficiency and ensure compliance. The incumbent works closely with Financial Services Branch (FSB) staff to identify and recommend the most feasible methods and processes for implementing fiscal business needs and objectives for employer and member accounting and reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to take on a challenge and use creative solutions to solve complex problems
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner and manage inputs from others necessary to complete tasks
  • Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

Telework Information:We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2-3 days per week.
