Position Description:
About the Work Unit
The Region 1 (R1) Environmental Unit ensures that the guiding principles of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other federal, state, and local laws are followed in our transportation planning and project development process, as well as maintenance and operations of the R1 transportation system.
CDOT's Environmental Ethics Statement:
CDOT will support and enhance efforts to protect the environment and quality of life for all of Colorado's citizens in the pursuit of providing the best transportation systems and services possible.
The purpose of this position is to serve R1 as the Noise Specialist, and as a Project Manager performing duties required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
This position will be responsible for managing NEPA clearance projects with various levels of complexity and requires an exceptional level of technical expertise deemed critical to the success of the Region.
This position also acts as the noise technical resource lead and expert for the R1 Environmental Unit and supports the R1 Environmental Manager, R1 Environmental Program Managers, R1 environmental staff, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the R1 Engineering Programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 6-8 years of professional experience coordinating environmental studies and permits, which included recent experience with complex projects requiring NEPA compliance in multi-resource areas (e.g., natural resources, air/noise, cultural, transportation planning, erosion control, historic properties, etc.).
At least 2 years of this experience must be with a primary focus on conducting data collection, studies, modeling, forecasting, and environmental mitigation for both traffic and construction noise.
ORA bachelor's degree from a U.S.
accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, data analysis, engineering, engineering technology, environmental sciences, geology, mathematics, natural resource management, physics or a closely related degree.
AND at least 2-4 years of professional work experience with a primary focus on conducting data collection, studies, modeling, forecasting, and environmental mitigation for both traffic and construction noise.
ORA master's degree from a U.S.
accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, data analysis, engineering, engineering technology, environmental sciences, geology, mathematics, natural resource management, physics or a closely related degree will substitute for the bachelor's degree and the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
