    Summary


    The Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of maintenance and engineering personnel to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities .

    • Safety
    o Considers safety throughout the operation a top priority and ensures all personnel are adhering to set policies and procedures

    o Continuously analyzes processes for safety improvement opportunities

    o Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations

    o Maintains a safe and clean working environment

    • Troubleshooting and downtime minimization
    o Personally, or through the direction of subordinates, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of shop machinery and equipment, including, but not limited to, Shears, Press Brakes and Turrets, often with the use of electrical and hydraulic schematics

    o Troubleshoots PLC systems and Robotic equipment by utilizing programming logic when required

    o Maintains ongoing communication with all relevant departments regarding equipment downtime

    o Ensures maintenance support is available during all manufacturing hours including night and weekend shifts

    • Facility Maintenance and troubleshooting
    o Performs basic and routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks according to service, quality, and safety standards

    o Evaluates current and potential outside service contracts for building and grounds maintenance where appropriate and provides recommendations to management team

    • Preventive Maintenance
    o Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt

    o Ensures the proper operation of machinery and equipment by ensuring scheduled and assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders are completed on time

    o Maintains accurate and comprehensive records through the development and use of maintenance software

    • Product and Process Optimization
    o Works with the design engineering team as needed to design, implement, and refine product development, testing, and new manufacturing processes

    o Evaluates current product manufacturing processes for efficiency improvement and cost reduction opportunities

    o Evaluates equipment downtime, capacity, efficiency and safety data to recommend improvement or replacement

    o Provides recommendations and analysis of annual department and capital budgets

    o Evaluates and tests new equipment and technologies as needed

    o Prepares and implements full qualification and onboarding plans for all new equipment – Installation, Operation and full Process testing


    o Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, allocating resources and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.

    Effectively collaborates with vendors and internal departments, such as scheduling, to minimize impact to shop productivity

    o Prepares comprehensive proposals for new product and process optimization projects that include ROI calculations, safety improvements, capacity increases and other relevant factors

    • All other duties, as assigned by leadership.
    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Supervises all maintenance and manufacturing engineering personnel. Responsible for employee training, development, engagement, and retention.

    • Recruitment


    o Participates in recruitment preparation/job scoping, reviews resumes, interviews and selects candidates to ensure the department is fully staffed in cooperation with Human Resources.


    • Training and Development
    o Develops, implements, maintains, and revises, effective training documentation and schedules for every position in the department.


    o Ensures training plans encompass a comprehensive understanding of equipment and technologies to effectively provide support to production teams during all hours of operation.


    o Ensures that training for all employees is up to date and maintains a schedule for refresher training as needed.

    o Provides ongoing feedback regarding expectations and performance timely to ensure training is effectively applied.


    o Personally, or through the direction of subordinates, provides training to production workers on routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitors compliance.


    • Performance Management
    o Evaluates employee performance for productivity and quality.

    o Actively addresses employee conduct and performance issues in a consistent and timely manner.

    o Completes performance reviews in a timely and thorough manner and provides continuous feedback to all direct reports.

    • Accountability
    o Resolves employee issues and works with Human Resources and leadership to develop and carryout appropriate actions. Prepares documentation as appropriate.


    o Administers disciplinary action and performance improvement plans ensuring performance standards are met and enforcing all company policy and procedures, in cooperation with Human Resources.


    • Administration
    o Manages employee's time; reviews, updates, and approves employee timecards and/or paid-time-off requests and ensures accuracy.


    Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or
    Electrical/Automation

    engineering and ten+ years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs and related equipment
    • Ability to assess, problem-solve, and trouble-shoot mechanical issues
    • Experience with making repairs to, and conducting maintenance on, robotic equipment.
    • Effective problem solving, judgment, and independent thinking skills for troubleshooting, solutioning and resolving challenging issues
    • Demonstrated experience with the practical application of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen
    • Forklift experience and certification is required
    • Must have strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and positively influence all other functional areas including Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Purchasing, Inventory Control, Scheduling, Shipping/Receiving and Safety
    • Able to handle frequent interruptions, meet tight deadlines and handle conflict in an effective manner
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
    • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
    • Experience with Microsoft Office products preferred
    Physical Demands


    This position requires the individual to actively move around the plant during all working hours; however, primary tasks are done in a standing position for extended periods.

    Weights of up to 50-lbs may have to be manually lifted, pushed, or pulled.

    Work Environment

    Duties will involve frequent movement between plant office, loading docks and manufacturing floor. The individual will experience moderate factory noise, welding illumination, and occasionally work outdoors during loading. The incumbent will typically work independently and without direct assistance or supervision. PPE must be worn as required including but not limited to Steel toed shoes and safety glasses. The incumbent occasionally performs work-related travel, less than 10% of the time.

    Additionally, some special projects, initiatives, or intermittent business needs may require the flexibility to work on alternate day or shift hours for extended periods of time.
