    ContinuousDescriptionThe County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) Extra Help or Retired Annuitant, part-time position in the class of Process Server at the Colusa-Sutter-Yolo Regional Child Support Agency

    Extra Help:
    temporary employees who provide coverage for periods of limited duration and are paid on an hourly basis. This assignment is limited to 1000 working hours per year.


    Retired Annuitant:
    a retired government employee who is a member of CalPERS. After satisfying the 180 day waiting period, they are eligible to work up to 960 hours per fiscal year. The PositionA willingness to work irregular hours and occasional weekends is required to be considered for this position. The amount of hours worked per week is typically 15 to 20.

    The primary function of this position will be to serve legal documents for participants receiving services from the Regional Child Support Agency.

    Work and travel utilizing a County vehicle, will extend across multiple California counties with most frequent service in Yolo, Sutter, Sacramento, and Colusa counties.

    Under general supervision, locates persons and serves civil or criminal process documents, and provides proof of service in support of various County departments.

    This is a non-sworn, journey level class utilized in various County departments that is responsible for performing process service work.

    This class does not possess Peace Officer status nor does it perform any law enforcement duties. This class reports to a higher level supervisory class, and does not exercise supervision over others.

    Essential FunctionsDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    Receives legal process documents and written instructions for service (the official handing over of documents) to litigants.

    Locates witnesses, makes positive identification of person being served and serves court orders, writs, subpoenas, affidavits, summonses, or notices to witnesses for appearance in court.

    Contacts employers, families, neighbors, and others to secure information regarding the whereabouts of individuals in order to facilitate the service process.

    Utilizes law enforcement computer systems to assist in identifying and locating persons and verifying criminal history.
    Informs person(s) of the general contents of the documents being served.
    Plans daily workload and route to facilitate the service process within a minimum of travel time and mileage.
    Maintains records/logs of activities and prepares reports on documents being served.
    During court sessions, serves as a witness and provides testimony regarding the measures taken (due diligence) to locate witnesses.
    Transports witnesses for court appearances and informs witnesses when court is cancelled or postponed.
    Performs related duties as assigned.


    Employment StandardsMinimum QualificationsEducation:
    Completion of thirty (30) semester units from an accredited college or university; ORExperience: One year of full-time work experience which required substantial public contact

    Background Requirements:


    Incumbents in this class will have access to Federal Tax Information and are subject to confidentiality and safeguarding requirements of Internal Revenue Code 6103(p)(4).

    As such, an individual selected for this position is subject to a thorough background investigation as stipulated in Section 5.1.

    Review of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint results;Check of local law enforcement agencies where the subject has lived, worked and/or attended school within the last five (5) years and, if applicable, of the appropriate agency for any identified arrests; andVerification of an employee's eligibility to work in the United States.

    Background investigations are conducted upon hire and every ten (10) years of employment thereafter.
