Under the general direction of the Supervising Oil and Gas Engineer (Deputy Programs I Manager), the Research Data Specialist I will function as the Project Support Specialist for the Well Statewide Tracking and Reporting (WellSTAR) unit in the California Geologic Energy Management Division's (CalGEM) Headquarters Office.

The incumbent independently performs database programming, information research from current and legacy databases, conducts data analytics and forensics, data profiling, pattern recognition, forecasting, and report development work for CalGEM.

The incumbent will use the enterprise Microsoft SQL Server suite to query and update databases using T-SQL, develop and maintain public web-based data dashboards, and develop data standards following CalGEM's Data Governance Plan.

The Project Support Specialist also performs database maintenance following WellSTAR data quality improvement goals. Experience in data manipulation and analysis using T-SQL is needed for this position.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.

If it is determined an applicant does not meet Minimum Qualifications, the applicant will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in Sacramento and is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. At least three days of remote work and up to two days of inoffice work per week is the available hybrid telework schedule for this position.
