ABOUT THE ROLE:

SPY's Development and Communications Department is responsible for all fundraising & communications activities, including donor relations, corporate relations, in-kind donations, donor database upkeep, fundraising appeals, special events, volunteerism, advocacy, social enterprise, marketing, social media, branding and other community-building initiatives. The Volunteer Engagement Intern supports all aspects of volunteer recruitment, coordination, engagement and retention across all SPY programs in West Los Angeles and Inglewood.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• (30%) Respond to general volunteer inquiries while collaborating with the Volunteer Coordinator and Programs staff to schedule workshops for youth including but not limited to Education & Employment career days, Healing Arts workshops, and Street Outreach ride-alongs.
• (25%) Respond to in-kind donation inquiries and collaborate with Programs staff to schedule donation drop-offs across several SPY sites.
• (20%) Be on-site to help welcome and support volunteers at SPY's Venice locations as scheduling permits (ex. Access Center, A Bridge Home Venice, and Community Garden).
• (10%) Administrative and research tasks, as needed.
• (10%) Conduct surveys to help collect data from program staff about improving volunteer programs and better fulfilling programmatic needs.
• (5%) Conduct outreach to corporate partners to solicit in-kind donations (ex. new underwear for youth members), including but not limited to creating outreach strategy plans and executing with supervisor support.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization

BACKGROUND YOU'LL NEED:

• Must have a Valid Driver's License or State ID.
• Must be at least 18-24 years of age.
• Must be currently attending a university or college while pursing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree is required.
• Familiar with SPY and has received services at any of our sites.
• Willingness to work with folks of diverse experiences and backgrounds
• Able to receive course credit, required.
• Detail-oriented.
• Top-notch time management skills.
• Experience in partnerships preferred, but not required.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, Forms, etc.
• Strong desire to gain nonprofit development experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.
• Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.

Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements: Effective August 9, 2021, the State Health Officer has mandated that all workers, paid or unpaid, in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination. If eligible for a booster shot, proof of booster is also required. If not fully vaccinated, weekly COVID-19 testing is necessary depending on the program. Driver Positions:

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a copy of their valid driver's license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record. Examples of an unsatisfactory driving record include:

• Suspended or revoked license
• Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months
• Any violations, including drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, within the past 24 months
• Reckless driving, including hit and runs, within the past 24 months
• At fault accidents, resulting in fatality or serious injury, within the past 5 years

For driver positions, driving is an essential job function and cannot be reasonably accommodated, employment may be discontinued.
