Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA)
We work to protect, restore, and enhance the Charles River and its watershed using science, advocacy, and the law by developing science-based strategies to increase resilience, protect public health, and promote environmental equity as we face a changing climate, together.
Job Description
The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator manages CRWA's hundreds of volunteers, engaging them in participatory science and hands-on clean up and restoration across the watershed.
The Coordinator reports to the River Science & Restoration Program Manager and works closely with the programs and communications staff.
The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is CRWA's lead for the Annual Charles River Earth Day Cleanup event, one of the largest one-day clean-up events in the country They will also be a vital part of CRWA's communications team, coordinating social media and organizing community events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage current CRWA volunteers through clear, direct communication, and continually recruit new volunteers
Train volunteers for participatory science programs
Lead CRWA's Annual Earth Day Cleanup event
Celebrate volunteer success through continuous engagement, appreciation events, and other initiatives
Coordinate and lead invasive species removal events with corporate teams and community members in local conservation areas
Coordinate CRWA's education program, managing requests and coordinating opportunities, and representing CRWA at community or school events
Coordinate communications and outreach for River Science & Education programs, including updating social media, sending newsletters, creating flyers, editing website pages, responding to public inquiries, and organizing events
Assist with other CRWA communications and outreach activities
Conduct work in accordance with CRWA's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
Provide documentation for volunteer event sponsorships, grant reports, CRWA's annual report, volunteer waivers and participant forms, etc.
Other administrative duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated enthusiasm for communicating with the public about CRWA's mission
Ability to effectively engage volunteers and residents to advance CRWA's work
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, anticipate project/event needs, and problem-solve when challenges arise
Previous experience managing volunteers or as a volunteer
Educational background and/or work experience in the environmental field is helpful but not required
Comfortable conducting work in the outdoors under all weather conditions
Ability to work with a diverse group of people from all backgrounds; multilingual is a plus
Demonstrated high level of courtesy, tact, and professionalism
Commitment to CRWA's mission
Able to work evenings and weekends as needed
This position requires regular travel to and from CRWA's Newton field office and throughout the Charles River watershed; therefore, a valid driver's license and reliable access to a personal vehicle is necessary to perform the critical functions of this role

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is a full-time position based in Boston with competitive salary and benefits, including generous paid time off, employer contributions to health insurance premiums and retirement plan, and a public transit stipend.
CRWA's office operates on a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. Starting salary for this position is $50,000 annually.ABOUT CRWA
