Manager, Client Development - New York, United States - Goodwin Procter LLP

    Default job background
    Description

Make an impact at Goodwin, where we partner with our clients to practice law with integrity, ingenuity, agility and ambition.

We are in the business of building authentic, long-term relationships with our clients, who are some of the world's most successful and innovative investors, entrepreneurs and disruptors in the life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, and where they converge.

Our immersive understanding of these industries - combined with our expertise across high-stakes litigation and dispute resolution, world-class regulatory compliance and advisory services, and complex transactions - sets us apart.

Our Global Operations Team - all business professionals of the firm - was named the "Best Business Team" by The American Lawyer.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Client Development Manager.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned business development professional, adept at fostering client growth, and executing initiatives with a keen strategic mindset.

This individual should excel at analyzing data for client targeting, as well as possess the skills to create and manage client development initiatives such as events, thought leadership campaigns and media.

The Client Development Manager will work across various business units and practices, including mergers and acquisitions and public company advisory.

The ideal candidate possesses a client-focused mentality, is highly service-oriented, and has the ability to guide, direct and advise lawyers in a sophisticated marketing and business development environment.

Responsibilities include helping to shape practice positioning within the context of the Goodwin brand; supporting client relationship-building initiatives; facilitating cross-selling opportunities across industries and geographies; helping the team at large with daily pitch requests, research, directory submissions and event guidance.

    What You Will Do:

    • Conceptualize, initiate and support client relationship building activities and other activities that will help the firm to institutionalize its client base and grow top line revenue:
    • Participate in the design and implementation of cross-business unit and cross-geography business development initiatives.
    • Drive global integration of key clients and prospects.
    • Build out and maintain prospect lists.
    • Develop business development plans around identified areas of growth.
    • Work with a subset of partners in developing and implementing personal business development plans and network expansion activities.
    • Work across relevant Client Development teams to ensure that practice descriptions, data sheets, web content and other marketing materials are compelling and up to date.
    • Oversee research and related competitive intelligence activity for key clients and prospects, working closely with the Market & Competitive Intelligence leader. Monitor the business development strategies and related activity of key competitors.
    • Partner with Marketing and Communications leaders to develop thought leadership campaigns and implement public relations strategies that further the group's goal for positive media exposure and visibility. Work with various industries to support and drive content.
    • Prepare and manage responses to RFPs/RFIs and daily pitch requests.
    • Collaborate with Client Development leaders to ensure integration of lateral partners.
    • Develop and manage budget.
    • Partner with the firm's Communications team to create targeted, strategic submissions for practice-related and attorney rankings, surveys and awards.
    • Serve as a key liaison between other functions of the Firm's Global Operations team, including finance, learning and professional development, attorney development, DEI, knowledge management and practice management to ensure collaboration.

    Who You Are:

    • Min 5-7 years of progressive experience in a practice management, business development or marketing role, ideally in an AmLaw 100 or other large professional services firm.
    • Previous experience working with an M&A practice is preferred.
    • Minimum BA, BS or degree equivalent.
    • Strategic thinker with strong project management, process implementation, data and budgeting skills.
    • Able to interact in a highly professional manner with partners, clients, colleagues and service providers.
    • Superior communication skills, including strong writing and editorial skills, with particular attention to detail.
    • Flexibility and ability to work with a wide variety of people and projects in a collective and collaborative manner.
    • Detail-oriented, analytical, comprehensive and systematic.
    • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or other CRM tools and databases a plus.
