    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:


    Duties of the position require the incumbent to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds on a recurring basis.

    A physical examination is required every two (2) years to perform the work of the position.

    After an offer of employment has been made and before commencement of duties, the selectee MUST be physically qualified by the Library's Health Office.

    The incumbent is expected to maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license from the state of residence and forklift operator's certification.

    Operate power jacks and transporters to move heavily loaded skids or heavy objects.

    Operates other powered materials handling equipment such as forklifts, low lift pallets and skid trucks, to load, Unload, move, transfer and transport palletized goods, boxes and crates of materials and supplies within and between buildings.

    Assists messengers and/or vendors with heavy hand trucks by using the tram to manage the load on non-level surfaces such as ramps.

    Interprets floor plans and diagrams for proper placement and installation of carpet, furniture, and other Equipment. Properly reads floor plans, accurately interpreting legend and scale of plan.
    Ensures safe receipt, storage and movement of hazardous materials and toxic chemicals in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.

    Must participate in formal and on-the-job training, as assigned, to oversee handling of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.

    Receive, inspect, move, unload, store, pack, ship and set out for issue and distribution a wide variety of supplies, furniture and equipment.

    Handle or oversee one or more product lines and service operations. Conduct inventory reviews, verifying quantity on hand and quantity issued. Report discrepancies to supervisor.

    Operates powered materials handling equipment (forklifts, low lift pallet and skid trucks) to load, unload, move, transfer and transport palletized goods, boxes and crates of merchandise, materials, and supplies from one location to another.

    Selects from supplies inventory, operational, housekeeping and office supplies from a requisition list and prepares those selected items for shipment direct to the customer office.

    Operates government-owned vehicles to deliver material or pick up material that was loaned-out or donated to the library. Transports tools and personnel to job sites away from the Madison, Jefferson, or Adams Library buildings.

    Uses a variety of hand, manual and power tools, to erect, dismantle, or repair furniture, platforms, partitions, shelving, and equipment.

    Custom-cuts and installs carpet tiles to the contouring of walls, columns, doors and floor- mounted electrical and telephone outlets. Rubber nosing and thresholds must also be accurately fitted to the edges of carpeting around walls, doors and obstacles. Occasionally removes carpet and glue and ensures floor is scrubbed and polished if needed.

    QualificationsApplicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

    Knowledge of materials handling and warehouse procedures.
    Skill in operating and maintaining materials handling and warehouse-related equipment and vehicles with safety and dexterity.Ability to interact with others.

    Ability to utilize computer technology in performing warehouse management work.
    Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
