    JOB SUMMARY : The Director of Behavioral Health provides assessment, triage and case management to students, faculty, and staff. In addition, the Director prepares and presents the curriculum for Introduction to Behavioral Health and chairs the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).

    CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Creates a vision for faculty development within the context of the Planning, Assessment, Accreditation and Research;
  • Conducts assessments for students, faculty and staff who experience psychological or personal life dysfunction, or academic challenges;
  • Where necessary, facilitates the referral process to a community treatment provider for students, faculty and staff;
  • Case manages students, faculty and staff who are enrolled in a treatment modality or agree to behavioral monitoring for sobriety. Remains "on-call" during and after office hours (except when on excused absence) to address behavioral emergencies, in consultation with Risk Management and Security;
  • Constructs, updates, facilitates, and conducts lectures in the Introduction to Behavioral Health (IBH) course;
  • Facilitates Problem-Based Learning year one groups on an as-needed basis;
  • Interviews standardized patient applicants for behavioral screening;
  • Writes behavioral health case scenarios for standardized patients for the Mental Status Examination practical experience in the IBH course;
  • Chairs the Behavioral Intervention Team committee meetings, maintains and distributes minutes of meetings;
  • Maintains a working relationship with community mental health agencies, (especially Millcreek Community Hospital Behavioral Health), private psychiatry, substance abuse agencies, and other social service agencies;
  • Presents Behavioral Health services at student orientation;
  • Provides consultation to faculty regarding student concerns;
  • Participates in training/preparing students for humanistic portion of the Performance Evaluation;
  • Participates in the remediation procedure for students having failed the Performance Evaluation;
  • Processes referrals to Physicians Health Programs (PHP) and Secundum Artem Reaching Pharmacists with Help ( agencies for evaluation and manages potential monitoring through those agencies;
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings with administrative staff/supervisor;
  • Participates in other programming as requested and expected (, Human Sexuality course, Spirituality and Medical Ethics course, managing the Haven program, exam proctoring, student applicant interviewing, scholarship fund participation, etc.);
  • Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;
  • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;
  • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
  • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach; and
  • Be able to accept other duties needed/assigned for the department needs.

  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnostic criteria in order to realize differential diagnoses;
  • Competent with the utilization of psychological methodologies;

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast paced environment;

  • Strong computer literacy and accurate data entry skills;
  • Maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials ( FERPA / HIPAA);
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Flexibility to accept other duties needed/assigned for the department needs;
  • Strong leadership skills and good judgment at the Administrative level;

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
    Education and experience equivalent to:
    a Florida state licensed psychologist or psychiatrist with a doctoral degree in psychology or psychiatry from an accredited institution. Five (5) years' experience of counseling practice with teaching experience at a college and/or graduate level education preferred.
