- Work as a key member of the Transportation team for moderate to large projects and work independently on smaller projects
- Assimilate and manage data
- Provide transportation design services for transit, highway, state agencies, cities and counties
- Prepare the following roadway/highway design elements using local agency or AASHTO design standards: horizontal and vertical alignment, 3D modeling, roadway cross sections, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout, and roadway drainage
- Work with a team in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for projects of various sizes and complexities
- Manage the following work elements: day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the other team members, write reports and technical memos, and organize project tasks in support of senior staff
- Perform other duties as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- EIT certification strongly preferred.Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
- 0 to 4 years transportation design experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-starter who strives to learn and take on increasing responsibilities and accept constructive feedback
- Time management and organizational skills
- Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation and GEOPAK, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D Software
- Experience with 3D modeling

HDR currently has an opening for a Transportation Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with 0 to 4 years of experience to join our Transportation team in the Madison, WI office.Our team focuses on geometric design, alternatives analysis, and final design for a variety of types of projects including large to mid-sized DOT and city projects. There may be opportunities to work on national design projects as well across the HDR network.
