This position is located at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.

Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles.

The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to operate a dump truck (GVW 22,000 to 33,000 lbs), a street sweeper, 4000 compaction roller and a variety of dumpsters (2 and 5 yard capacity).

The incumbent will also be the backup backhoe and excavator operator in the interment section. This position works with the pre-set crypt project team. The incumbent works with dump trucks, dumpsters, and forklifts which are loaded with materials, supplies, and/or equipment. The incumbent will operate the dump trucks and dumpers over the entire area in support of the interment section. Incumbent will also be required to maintain maintenance logs, trip tickets, and operator preventative logs. Some terrain may be uneven or unstable and the operator will be required to make sound judgment. The incumbent will operate equipment over narrow curving roads in generally moderate to heavy traffic conditions. He/she must be able to safely operate foot and hand controls simultaneously.

Must have a valid state Class B driver's license or obtain one within one year.

Work schedule :
May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends.

Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time.

Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday.

All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
