The Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) offers a generous benefits and compensation package.

Position Summary
The Intake Coordinator is responsible for the initial medical and behavioral evaluations of all animals entering HSSC?s care.

The Intake Coordinator, under the supervision of the Intake Manager, completes all digital and paper records at the time of entry and provides initial vaccinations and prophylactic medical care and testing at the time of intake.

This position coordinates closely with all departments to ensure all animals coming in have the quickest path to the appropriate outcome.

Responsibilities:


Conduct all animal intake exams, including age-appropriate diagnostics and vaccinations, deworming, and accurately record information into the appropriate shelter software.

Assist in coordination, transport, and processing of large intakes and/or live outcomes of dogs and cats.

Schedule appropriate vaccinations in shelter software according to guidelines set forth by the HSSC Director of Veterinary Services under the guidance of HSSC Veterinarians.

Schedule and complete all vaccinations and exams on animals in foster care in a timely manner.
Conduct microchip research and document all information in shelter software when necessary.

Ensure the highest standards of care for animals arriving in the intake area of the facility according to HSSC and Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines.

Ensure the accurate and timely input of information into our shelter software to maintain appropriate medical records.
Responsible for the continued and timely maintenance and review of medical records for animals admitted into our care.
Perform Humane Euthanasia when recommended by HSSC Veterinarian, according to HSSC and Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) guidelines.
Restrain pets for exams and diagnostics as needed using fear-free methods.
Assist with impound of animals such as rehomes and strays when necessary.
Other duties as assigned based on company needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High School Diploma/GED required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an animal shelter in an intake or veterinary technician role.
Create a culture of embracing volunteerism, emphasizing the importance of volunteers in all aspects of the organization.

Must adhere to HSSC Client Experience Guidelines that are set forth to remove bias and barriers and establish our organization as a resource to our community.

Ability or willingness to learn the software used to manage the shelter population. ShelterLuv software experience preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a variety of people and represent the HSSC in a positive and professional manner to all staff, volunteers, clients, donors, and the community.

Certified in Fear Free Animal Handling and Care, or complete certification within 60 days.

Certified in Humane Euthanasia according to Florida state statute guidelines, or willing to complete certification within 6 months of employment.

Ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccinations. Able to administer oral and topical medications to animals.
Must be able to always provide accurate information to the public.
Must have the ability to handle cats and dogs of all breeds, sizes, behavior, and disposition.
Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability and willingness to transport animals in company vehicles.
Outgoing, comfortable speaking in front of groups, working with animals, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
Capable of accepting and completing work assignments with mínimal supervision in a highly motivated manner.
Professional appearance and presentation.
Must support the HSSC?s mission, vision, and practices.
Commitment to treat animals with respect and kindness.

Comply with all policies as described in the Humane Society of Sarasota County Employee Handbook and Standard Operating Procedures Manual.

Must possess a valid Florida driver?s license with driving record acceptable to be added to company vehicle insurance.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
