    This position serves as a vehicle engineer, applying engineering and project management concepts to the management of capital and grant projects, the design and specification of transit vehicles, and the optimization of equipment, maintenance procedures and budgets to achieve better maintainability, reliability and availability of transit vehicles. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the organization's Drug and Alcohol Policy.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ESSENTIAL:
    • Serves as Technical Project Manager on capital, grant and special demonstration projects.
    • Provides engineering and technical support to bus operations to achieve better reliability and availability of equipment.
    • Analyzes AssetWorks and Oracle reports to determine trends and cost effectiveness of equipment choice and maintenance practices.
    • Tests and evaluations of new equipment and materials to determine suitability for use.
    • Represents the interest of the organization as engineering/technical expert in legal and contractual matters, vehicle warranty coverage discussions with vendors, and governmental regulatory issues.
    • Monitors technical developments in transit industry and governmental regulations, and implements equipment modifications, new technical specifications, processes and procedures in compliance with standards and regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
    • A minimum of five years of experience in automotive engineering design, operation, or maintenance.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
    • Proficiency in engineering concepts such as finite element analysis, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, heat transfer, electrical circuits, etc.
    • Proficiency in automotive electronics or industrial automation such as electronic control modules (ECM), programmable logic controllers (PLC), electrical multiplexing, etc.
    • Proficiency in complex engineering calculation and analysis such as structural strength, energy transformation, etc.
    • Proficiency in common equipment diagnostic/monitoring/troubleshooting computer programs.
    • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, and fleet diagnostic software such as Cummins Insite, Detroit Pro-Link, ZF TestmanPro and Allison DOC.
    • Ability to learn to navigate in Oracle and AssetWorks within three months of hire.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
    • Ability to use sound judgment.
    • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
    • Ability to work in shifts of 12 hours long in non-standard hours during emergency and severe weather conditions.
    • Ability to perform physical walk-around bus inspection including under chassis and roof top inspection.
    • Ability to travel and spend extended time at equipment factory.
    • Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR as stipulated by the organization's MVR policy.
    • Ability to obtain CDL B-P2 within six months of hire.

    Pay Range:
    $84, $119,224.25 Annual
