    Position Specifications


    Incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting the Director in evaluating all departments within the Department of Public Safety by planning and developing department projects, programs or significant initiatives, and implementing the department-wide media strategy.

    This position analyzes crime and departmental data for the creation of operational reports to be presented to the Director of Public Safety; prepares public correspondence on behalf of the Director; attends the Mayor's Public Safety meetings; coordinates Public Safety projects with the community utilizing crime and other data to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with the organization's goals; and supervises Public Information Officer and Safety Officer positions.

    Minimum Qualifications


    A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or a social science in a relevant field; plus at least four years of administrative or managerial experience monitoring public safety programs.

    OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted upon request


    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    Previous experience as a Public Information Officer is preferred; ability to communicate effectively across various platforms to craft clear, concise reports, presentations, and emails and the ability to engage and persuade diverse audiences; experience identifying potential negative media situations and executing crisis communication plans to mitigate reputational damage.

    S PREFERENCE POINTS:


    To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request.

    The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.


    CITY RESIDENT

    S PREFERENCE POINTS:

    City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam.

    An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.


    City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
