    Summary

    The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for planning, managing, and executing all aspects of Angel City Sports Community Relations from building best practices to develop mutually beneficial community partnerships around athlete outreach and recruitment, community partnerships, and volunteer recruitment and management. Community Relations is defined as all activities related to building our pipeline of new athletes, volunteers, and community partners, gathering their contact information to grow our database and elevate the adaptive sports movement, while building our brand in the adaptive sports industry. Key elements include managing the ACS Volunteer Leadership Council, Athlete Ambassadors, Community Partners, outreach events, and calendaring and staffing of said outreach events. There will be a support role at Premiere Events in management and oversight of areas like the resource fairs, volunteer opportunities, and other areas of the organization as assigned. As an ACS team member, the Community Relations Coordinator will play a key role in transforming the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments through the power of sports while also helping lead the Paralympic Movement.

    Responsibilities

    Community Events & Partners

    • Select, calendar, and organize participation in high-profile, high impact Community Events to drive acquisition of new athletes (youth, adults, and Veterans), volunteers, and community partners to build our network of key stakeholders in the adaptive sports and Paralympic movement. Example events could include Abilities Expo, Triumph Foundation Wheelchair Festival, Spinal Injury Games (Rancho), Wounded Warrior Trials, Long Beach or West LA VA events, etc.
    • Develop a tiered system of community partners to support programming, safe-sport training, cross-promotion and recognize them on our website accordingly.
    • Maintain the community aspect of our event calendar, with event listings for our partners and friends in the community based on above tiered system.
    • Hold Quarterly Community Partner Zoom calls with strategic agenda, idea sharing, collaboration opportunities for cross promotion, etc.
    • Establish, manage, and maintain long lasting relationships with key community stakeholders.
    • Create metrics to measure growth, impact, and deeper partner relationships.
    • Oversee recruitment of Premier Event booth participants.

    Athlete Outreach and Recruitment

    • Create an annual plan for athlete outreach (youth, adult, and Veterans) and recruitment through above community outreach events, word of mouth, athlete acquisition campaigns through social, etc. to ensure programs and premier events are well attended.
    • Lead Premier Event Councils/Groups: Youth Weekend Parent Council, Athlete Ambassadors, Courage Council.
    • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to send targeted communications to athletes by disability, geographic location, primary language spoken, etc.
    • Work closely with Events Manager to create athlete experience/journey and how we gain their feedback and input post programs/events.

    Volunteer Outreach, Recruitment, and Management

    • Cultivate, train, and manage the recruitment, processing, and retention of ACS volunteers, including, but not limited to:
    • Athlete Ambassador Program so that ambassadors can represent ACS at events and programs.
    • Volunteer Leadership Council – serving as second tier under staff for leading bigger initiatives like segments of Angel City Games.
    • Year-Round Sport Volunteers
    • Premier Event Volunteers
    • One-off volunteers/volunteer days
    • Manage the volunteer module VOMO (Virtuous system) with volunteer opportunities, ensuring ACS website is updated with volunteer sign up links, send volunteer communications for programs and premier events, submit for social posts with volunteer call to action, manage background check invitations and safe sport training of volunteers as required.
    • Lead Volunteer Orientations
    • Plan and organize an annual Volunteer Appreciation activity or event.

    General

    • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to ensure success of Community Relations initiatives through website, digital, social, photos and video, email, and PR.
    • Support the Chief Operations & Development Officer with volunteer opportunities tied to donor relationships: individuals, corporations, associations, and civic organizations.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to create and maintain a Community Relations budget and track financial records, pay related invoices, obtain certificates of insurance as needed, save receipts for grants and historical documentation.
    • Update Quarterly Metrics Tracking with key metrics related to above areas.
    • Be point person for ACS cell phone.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in public administration, communications, or at least 2 years of related experience required.
    • Experience in adaptive sports and the disability community.
    • Experience planning and executing community initiatives.
    • Experience with spreadsheets and contact data information.
    • Experience working with volunteers in the non-profit sector.
    • Proficient in MailChimp or other email systems.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed for outreach events, meetings, and special events.
    • Familiar with donor databases and systems (Virtuous, VOMO, Classy).

    Core Competencies

    • Experienced in community relations, community building, and recruitment.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be decisive and adaptable.
    • Strong interpersonal skills including experience building and maintaining relationships with a diverse network of individuals (athletes, volunteers, sponsors, donors) and partner organizations (sponsors, NGO and programming, facilities, and non-profits)
    • Ability to self-manage and manage others, prioritize work assignments, and manage multiple deadlines.
    • Detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to manage and lead others with different responsibilities supporting one common event and mission.
    • Self-motivated; creative, innovative, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • Work is performed in a standard work office environment and is currently in the office on site at least 2 days per week. This is evolving and subject to change.
    • Coordination of events will require organizing, managing, preparing, and transporting Angel City Sports equipment and materials as needed.
    • Position requires driving of personal or ACS accessible vehicles to load and transport adaptive equipment, tabling supplies, and other.
    • The ability to lift 25-50 pounds regularly.
    • Position will require working some nights and weekends to ensure job completion.
