Job Description

Manufacturer of food packaging in the North Suburbs has an immediate need for a Sr. Accountant. This position is responsible for the general accounting and Cost accounting functions within the Accounting/Finance Department. This position provides a greater level of support to management in identifying opportunities for savings and revenue growth. A variety of financial and sales support projects are handled by this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Reporting
Assist with month-end close and provide analytical support as needed.
Provide accurate balance sheet reconciliations along with proper

analysis/documentation.
Prepare and maintain month-end schedules.
Prepare expense analysis report for Operations.
Prepare monthly expense accruals.
Analyze financial information and explain key variances.
Process, document and analyze monthly recurring and adjusting journal entries.
Costing
Analyze and propose improvements to standard costs.
Ensure accurate standard costs are used (material, labor and overhead rates)
Ensure bill of materials and routers are properly maintained with current information.
Analyze cost variances to assess validity of product costing methods, manufacturing assumptions and inventory valuations.
Cash Management
Apply daily cash receipts from customers.
Prepare daily bank reconciliations and daily cash report.
Prepare weekly cash forecast.
Other
Assist with AP and AR when needed.
Assist in budget preparation
Create clear and concise written procedures for all job

functions/responsibilities.
Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
Assist with financial audits.
Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous and professional manner.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CRITERIA:

Retain and comprehend information in order to: receive and follow instructions, read, interpret, compare and analyze data; research information in order to resolve problems; identify issues requiring further attention; corrections and/or make recommendations; then take preventive actions; process facts and apply judgments; communicate with others to provide or obtain information.

Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to changing priorities, deadlines, demands and assignments while maintaining cohesive and harmonious working relationships. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with others related to learning, problem solving, backup support and fostering team support. Perform repetitive keystrokes to compile and prepare documents, reports, forms and correspondence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of related experience in accounting; knowledge of manufacturing software, desirable.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

Communication skills:

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, peers, vendors and customers (in writing and orally).

Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail.

Computer skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft word processing, advanced Excel, and e-mail programs. Knowledge of Made2Manage and MAS 200 is a plus.
Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of cost accounting.

Work approaches:
Routinely interacts with employees within own department; routinely interacts with others in the organization and public.
