Engineering / Architecture
About Griffin Sahr:
I am currently a student at Purdue University seeking internship opportunities in the field of engineering.
Experience
My first experience working on my own was at the age of 13 when I became a caddie at my local golf club. In this role I quickly learned the value of responsibility and a strong work ethic as there were no assigned hours. I had to hold myself accountable to go to the course every morning and ensure that I put in the effort required to earn promotions and create strong relationships with members. I also learned how to communicate clearly and effectively with others as well as how to conduct myself in a professional setting.
When I entered my senior year of high school, I was chosen to be the primary leader, also known as rector, for our senior retreat. With this role came the task of organizing the retreat, the other retreat leaders, and the retreatants themselves. Since this retreat was entirely student led with minimal adult supervision, I had to create a rigid timeline for the entirety of the 4-day retreat and ensure that all other leaders were assigned their specific responsibilities. During the third day of this retreat, it was found that two of the retreatants had tested positive for COVID-19. With this came the incredibly difficult task of adapting to the situation and completing the goals of the retreat without endangering any other students. With the help of my fellow leaders, we were able to keep the students quarantined while carrying out the necessary roles that we as leaders were assigned.
After my freshman year of college at Purdue, I was selected to take part in the internship program at Littelfuse Inc. My internship there involved me working in their product development office and working closely with their electric vehicle team. My main project for the summer involved testing a new line of fuses and creating my own fuse elements to be tested as a viable replacement for their current design. I had minimal supervision on this project and was given a small set of guidelines to aid my research. I had to take the initiative to ask for help when needed and set my own timeline to complete my project. During the course of the project, when my workload decreased, I once again took the initiative to speak with other employees and learn more about their work and offer my assistance. Through this I was able to involve myself in several other projects that allowed me to gain far more experience. When my project was eventually completed, I had found outstanding results that I then had to present to the entire executive team of the company alongside my fellow interns. This taught me how to successfully create a technical presentation and how to speak clearly under pressure.
Education
I received my high school diploma from Carmel Catholic High School where I graduated in 2021. I then moved onto my enrollment at Purdue University studying mechanical engineering. I am currently a sophomore and am on track to graduate in 2025.
