    Description
    The University Health and Counseling Services Department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is seeking a Medical Director (Physician, HS035).

    JOB DETAILS:
    The Medical Director serves the students of the UW-Whitewater community.

    Primary areas of responsibility include being a healthcare provider for students and providing clinical supervision for nursing and medical staff.

    The health clinic of University Health and Counseling Services is a primary care clinic with over 7,000 visits per year including both chronic and acute illnesses, allergy clinics, reproductive (but not prenatal) care, transgender care, and other services pertinent to young adults.

    The health clinic is integrated with our Counseling Center sharing an EMR and participating in care conferences. The clinic is recognized and accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Healthcare for high-quality services and practices. The position is a 0.8 FTE annually but how the hours are disseminated throughout the year can be discussed.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum Qualifications
    A degree of Medical Doctor, (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy, (D.O.).
    Current license to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Wisconsin, registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
    Board eligibility of certification in the areas of pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine, or other related field.
    Experience and interest in the area of adolescent and young adult health care.
    Sensitivity to development issues of young adults and willingness to function with a team approach is essential.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


    Willingness and ability to be an active participant in the following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training drills.

    Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Provide direct medical care to students.

    Provide education to students as appropriate regarding utilization of health care, confidentiality, patient rights and responsibilities, and particular health needs.

    Provide clinical supervision for the nursing and medical staff including acting as collaborative partner for NPs.
    Act as collaborating physician for UW-Parkside nurse practitioners.
    Provide consultation to patient case management in the direct care administered by nurses, nurse practitioners, and other M.D.s.
    Participate in planning the optimal use of resources based on the recognized needs of the students.
    Participate in quality assurance planning and implementation for the Student Health Service.
    Oversee the development of nursing protocols, medical forms, and educational materials.
    Maintain a high level of skill through regular professional education meetings, journals, professional organizations, etc.
    Participate on University and Student Health Service committees as appropriate.
    Laboratory Director (moderately complex lab).
    Share medical expertise with the campus community through ongoing work with faculty, staff, and students.
