    Christina Miyamasu, Chief Deputy, Criminal Operations

    Location:

    Primarily KCCH, Seattle; however, this position may need to go to meetings and events at the MRJC or other office locations.

    This position may have opportunities for telecommuting as business needs allow.

    Schedule:
    Monday - Friday; our core business hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

    Job Duties

    Roles & Responsibilities

    The person in this role is a key member of the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' leadership team and PSP.

    This person will lead with a lens that supports the PAO and the County's Race, Equity, and Social Justice goals.

    At some point in the future, this position may take on supervisory responsibilities. We are excited to collaborate with the successful candidate on what that may look like as this position evolves.

    Strategic Planning and Leadership


    • Serves as a member of the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' leadership team and PSP to conduct long-term planning, strategizing, and formulation to establish policies, procedures, and innovation.
    • Collaborates with the Chief of Criminal Operations and the Chief Administrative Manager for the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions, as well as PSP, various committees, and other Divisions engaged in continuous improvement efforts and operational policies and practices to ensure quality services.
    • In partnership with the Chief of Criminal Operations and the Chief Administrative Manager, collaborates with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office Information and Technology Division to manage the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' technology needs.
    • In partnership with the Chief of Criminal Operations and the Chief Administrative Manager, collaborates with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office Finance Team to manage the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' finances.
    • May act as a liaison between the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions, partner agencies, and the public on certain topics or projects.
    Oversight of Daily Operations


    • Works closely with PSP and the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures and cultivates a healthy work culture.
    • Provides scheduling and paralegal support to the Chief of Criminal Operations and the Adult Criminal Practice Division Chiefs, including setting schedule priorities, resolving appointment conflicts, and providing trial support.
    • Assists with drafting, editing, and proofreading of correspondence and pleadings drafted by the Chief of Criminal Operations and the Chiefs of the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions.
    • Assists the Chief Administrative Manager with monitoring and updating PID information (Potential Impeachment Disclosure / Brady).
    • Manages, updates, and communicates out DPA morning matter assignments.
    • Receives initial notification and drafts and transmits PAO communications to the King County Executive regarding all in-custody deaths and fatal officer-involved shooting incidents.
    • Assists the Chief of Criminal Operations with DPA rotations and tracking DPA FTEs; attends meetings related to monitoring FTE numbers.
    • In partnership with the Chief of Criminal Operations and HR team, coordinates extern and Rule 9 hiring for the Adult Criminal Practice and Juvenile Divisions.
    • Coordinates the deputy performance evaluation process, the Senior promotion process, and the Senior Talent Review process.
    • In partnership with our HR team, coordinates and participates in the hiring process for Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' student interns.
    • Fields inquiries from students in all class levels looking for school year opportunities.
    • Responds to inquiries from local middle and high schools, and undergraduate professors for DPAs to speak at career days/career classes/mock trials.
    • Arranges job shadows and informational interviews for all student inquiries.
    • May take on supervisory responsibilities of exempt and non-exempt positions, which would include coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback for the Adult Criminal Practice Divisions' Legal Service Professionals, as well as assisting with planning and assignment of workloads and developing and planning trainings for LSPs.
    • In partnership with the Chief Administrative Manager and individual Unit leadership, manages Facilities requests and office space planning.
    • Collaborates with Division Chiefs, Chief Administrative Manager, Unit Chairs, and other office leadership to devise and execute further evolution of this position to meet changing business needs and responsibilities.
    • Other tasks and responsibilities may be added or modified as business needs evolve.

    • Knowledge of the overall legal system and court procedures
    • Knowledge of criminal practice operations, workflows, and processes is a plus.
    • Knowledge of legal terminology and the ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations.
    • Skill in establishing effective and efficient processes to accomplish tasks, with a focus on continuous improvement. Strong problem solver with the ability to "think outside of the box."
