Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Practice - Nutrition

Open Rank Professor of Practice (Non-Tenure Track)

    College of Human Ecology

    Cornell University

The Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) at Cornell University is searching for a non-tenure track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Practice (12-month position). The new faculty member will join a team of talented, passionate professionals committed to the vision of preparing the next generation of leaders. The successful candidate will contribute to shaping the Division's undergraduate program as we strive to increase and diversify the set of engaged and experiential learning opportunities for our students. Cornell University is committed to engaged learning and research; the Division's emphasis on the translation of nutrition evidence to policies and programs includes existing and well-developed domestic and international partnerships. As part of our innovative program, the Professor of Practice will draw on their professional experience to build new partnerships, create new experiential learning opportunities (ELOs), and develop new pedagogical courses to support experiential learning. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty in the Division to maintain a creative array of engaged learning partnerships and opportunities for students across all the Division's majors.

Start date: July 2024 or as negotiated.

Rank: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Practice (non-tenure track); 12-month appointment; 3–5-year term, with the possibility of renewal; not a remote or online position.

Salary and Benefits: Competitive, commensurate with background and experience.

Responsibilities: This position has 50% teaching and 50% program development in the first 3 years. After successful building of experiential and engaged programming, responsibilities in teaching may expand pursuant to evaluation by the Division Director, the college, and the incumbent. The teaching responsibilities will be at the Cornell Ithaca campus and the teaching commitment is comparable to two classes per semester and one summer session course.

Teaching: Instruction will include: 1) teaching in existing classes, including classes that support pre- and post-experiential/engaged activities; 2) collaborating with the Director and the faculty to develop, deliver, and manage additional course offerings that advance our strategic priorities in engaged learning; 3) advising 25-30 undergraduate students each year.

Experiential Learning and Partnership Development: We seek a committed individual who will work collaboratively with the faculty to define rigorous experiential programming that complements the academic content of our three majors, with careful ongoing evaluation of outcomes and ongoing improvement in programming as a key goal. The Professor of Practice will provide intellectual and operational leadership for Division, applied and community-based learning initiatives and will serve as a liaison for external partner initiatives. The faculty member will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships that support programming, often in partnership with other faculty in DNS, and will liaise with other campus programs and the Office of Global Learning. To ensure success in building programs that are responsive to our students, that leverage existing partnerships, and that advance DNS strategic priorities, a review of programmatic needs will occur regularly. The Professor of Practice will work collaboratively with the DNS Student Services team members who provide administrative and student-centered support for experiential learning.
