SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Accounting & Finance and according to established policies and procedures, the Accounting Manager performs a variety of administrative and accounting duties in order to maintain accurate accounting, vendor, voucher, and disbursement records and reports. Assists in preparation of financial analyses, budgets and reports. Observes confidentiality of client and law office matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Oversees and directs general accounting functions for the accounting department including procedural aspects of accounts payable, client trust funds and all disbursements 2.Establishes and maintains appropriate internal controls to safeguard assets, to ensure proper accounting of transactions and to promote operational efficiency within the accounting department and throughout the law firm. 3. Supervises AP Supervisor , Accounts Payable Team Lead-International and all related disbursement work 4.Thorough knowledge of expense coding and classification within the accounting system5.Thorough understanding of Chrome River (expense report and invoice system) including an ability to make changes to various rules and procedures within6.Responsible for reviewing all check and electronic disbursements and either signing those disbursements or authorizing application of system generated signature7. Setting up and maintaining on-line access for numerous banks and maintaining authorized check signers with banks8.Reconciles various GL accounts on a monthly basis including but not limited to Indiana Secretary of State deposit account, personal account clearing account, parking withholding, partner misc receivable, and employee misc receivable accounts (11324, 14015, 14020, 24110 and others as necessary) 9.Reviews firm subsidiary and affiliated entity financial statements10.Reviews monthly VEBA bank reconciliation, prepaid insurance account, USPTO reconciliations11. Calculate and prepare payments due to independent contractors. 12. Prepare detailed activity schedules as needed related to separate trust accounts 13.Responsible for monitoring cash flow14.Assists Chief Financial Officer, Director of Accounting & Finance , and Management Committee in financial management and analysis as Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1.Knowledge of accounting and financial management principles including disbursements and accounts payable in order to manage resources and provide reports at a level normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent; CPA or CPA candidate Five to seven years of progressively responsible public accounting or similar work Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff in person, by e-mail and telephone to provide information with ordinary courtesy and Analytical skills necessary in order to conduct complex and detailed analysis on various accounting and tax Work occasionally required a high level of mental effort when performing essential Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the This job description is intended to describe the general requirements of this position.
