    Opportunity Summary

    The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist at Rockland Capital oversees environmental programs, ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of responsibility. This role involves providing expertise in emissions monitoring, supporting contracts, and facilitating communication on regulatory changes.

    Regarding safety, the Senior EH&S Specialist supports power plants, conducting assessments and providing mentorship. Ensuring consistent safety procedures, disseminating relevant information, and contributing to safety protocol development are key responsibilities, along with leading training sessions and investigations to promote continuous improvement in safety practices.

    Here's a look at some of the work you'll be performing:

    Environmental
    • Provide direct support, guidance, and oversight to Rockland Capital facilities for environmental program development, coordination, and implementation.
    • Promote activities fostering a "culture of compliance" within the organization.
    • Provide oversight and support for existing O&M contracts/facilities, transitions, and pre-commercial support for new accounts and third-party clients.
    • Provide expertise in Part 75 and Part 60 CEMS Sr. Program.
    • Support the provision of contracted services to customers and initiatives aimed at furthering Rockland Capital's growth.
    • Continuously identify environmental program enhancements and initiatives, collaborating with relevant management for execution.
    • Refine and expand Environmental Services as appropriate to the situation.
    • Identify opportunities to add value and support across Rockland Capital facilities as appropriate.
    • Support and lead the development and implementation of environmental compliance management systems, tools, and processes at facilities. This includes environmental compliance manuals, databases, tracking, and management systems.
    • Track, interpret, summarize, and communicate applicable environmental regulations and requirements.
    • Stay informed and current on regulatory developments impacting the power industry, sharing knowledge with clients.
    • Oversight of accurate, timely, and budgeted completion and submission of required environmental deliverables.
    • Interface with plant and corporate personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies to manage environmental issues effectively.
    • Manage external contractors/consultants and/or provide project supervision for larger-scale projects as assigned.
    • Provide guidance in the development of environmental management systems and tools.
    • Provide objective assessments of facility environmental performance.
    • Provide expert multi-media environmental research, guidance, and consulting in specialized environmental areas.
    • Identify, develop, and communicate "lessons learned," best practices, and effective tools to improve environmental performance. Provide environmental support for due diligence activities.
    • Support initiatives to enhance environmental knowledge and awareness within specific projects and broader groups.
    • Plan and complete projects and tasks for Environmental Services program development, compliance assistance, and consulting, covering a wide variety of multi-media environmental issues. Develop and utilize program area expertise, tools, services, and processes.
    • Use environmental consulting and project management tools, templates, and processes internally and externally.
    • Support financial tracking and analyses of projects, providing recommendations to improve financial performance.
    • Assist in business development and marketing activities, including supporting budget estimates and proposals for projects and services.
    • Support departments and coworkers, including effective review, training, and participation in assigned matrix tasks.
    Safety
    • Provide ongoing and case-based safety support to assigned power plants, gas producing facilities, and renewable energy sites through phone calls, emails, personal meetings, and on-site physical presence.
    • Schedule and travel to each facility assigned to conduct an annual safety assessment, gap analysis, or to perform training and education.
    • Provide professional direction and mentorship to project Safety Engineers, ESH Coordinators, Safety Coordinators, and Plant Managers.
    • Coordinate time and service with other Corporate Safety Managers in the company to provide safety support and coverage to all appropriate NAES Corporate, Operations, and plant organizations.
    • Ensure uniform interpretation of site safety procedures at assigned facilities and throughout the corporation.
    • Communicate and distribute new and changing safety-related information and safety alerts through published communications and oral presentations.
    • Provide targeted and specialized safety support for new and transitioning plants or client consulting services, including safety gap analysis, site safety risk assessments, report preparation, and presentations.
    • Recommend changes to the NAES "standard" Safety Manual based on an ongoing review of regulatory requirements and assessment of NAES performance.
    • Develop new or modified safety procedures and submit them to the safety team for review and comment. Incorporate recommended changes and processes for final publication.
    • Identify training needs and opportunities. Assist in the development and delivery of training curriculum and materials. Lead training and conduct train-the-trainer sessions.
    • Assess the safety performance of individual plants, "groups" of plants, or the Rockland portfolio by both personal observation and by reviewing reports and evaluations. Based on these assessments, prepare and share "Lessons Learned" and "Best Practices" as appropriate.
    • Review and comment on all plant operations facility safety-related incident and accident reports and develop for publication a communication of lessons learned.
    • Support investigations and Root Cause Analysis of incidents as requested by Operations Director, VP of Corporate Safety, or Senior Corporate Safety Manager.
    • Conduct routine safety conference calls with plant safety personnel, providing follow-up, status on assignments, and completion of tasks.
    • Prepare, support, and lead tasks identified to assist in the preparation of the annual NAES Safety Conference. Assignments can include obtaining speakers, vendors, hotel contracts, awards, or managing the conference budget.
    • Support and participate in company-sponsored conferences and Plant Manager conference calls to provide specific safety focus and expertise.
    NAES Safe

    Safety is a core value of NAES and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to be mentally alert and work safely at all times. Additionally, employees are required to adhere to all safety warnings and posted safety signs whenever on company property. Furthermore, employees must follow all NAES and Rockland safety rules and procedures. Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each employee's performance.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    Travel to plants is required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment. Working on industrial sites will also require climbing steps and ladders. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facilities.

    Fitness for Duty

    All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer drug screening.

    Work Schedule

    Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm (CST). Flexible hybrid work schedule with occasional travel. Extended hours may be required during travel or due to project specific requirements.

    Compensation

    The initial annual rate of compensation will range from $115,000 to $140,00 based on experience and qualifications.

    Why you're the perfect addition to our Team (about you):
    • A Bachelor of Science Degree in an environmental, safety, scientific, or engineering discipline with at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, or equivalent knowledge and experience, is desired.
    • Significant experience with environmental, reliability, and safety compliance services in or supporting power plant(s) or process industries is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and experience with air program compliance in the energy sector is highly desirable.
    • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in environmental, reliability, and safety program areas applicable to the energy sector, with a willingness to investigate and learn more in these areas.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Programs, Gensuite, compliance websites, and similar data and information systems to support compliance programs and develop client deliverables.
    • Extensive experience in conducting safety assessments and gap analyses in industrial settings, particularly in power plants or similar process industries.
    • Proven ability to develop and implement safety training programs tailored to the specific needs of power plant personnel, resulting in improved safety awareness and reduced incidents.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in incident investigation techniques, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), to identify underlying factors and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with/leading teams and providing training and guidance.
    • Demonstrated experience with multitasking multiple projects is highly desirable.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License at all times.
