The Role The candidate will work independently and apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts, in the field of structural design and analysis
The individual should have strong communication and technical writing skills
The selected engineer will oversee several projects, as well as provide guidance and direction to the junior engineering staff
In addition, clearly composed presentations to NNS senior leadership, Navy, government technical warrant holders and SME's
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs
Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis
Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications
Must Have Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Nice to Have Experience in working in a collaborative environment integrating the many ship systems at the structural interfaces, with teams of engineers and designers of varying disciplines
A BS in one of the following engineering disciplines: Civil/Structural, Mechanical or Aerospace
Knowledge of the finite element analysis program FEMAP, Mathcad or Matlab, Teamcenter and/or Vismock, MS Word and Excel
