    United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring a Specialist I, Early Intervention to join our team. As Specialist I, Early Intervention ensures that the Grantee adheres to the Head Start/Early Head Start/ Performance Standards and state and local requirements regarding Mental Health and Special Needs services for young children. The Specialist, Intervention is responsible for ensuring that Grantee Early Head Start Programs develop and implement systems and procedures for the delivery of quality Mental Health and Special Needs services. The Specialist is responsible for supporting Grantee Early Head Start Programs through training, monitoring, and technical assistance.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Ensures that all Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) Program staff document their efforts and create systems to enroll at least 10% of children with disabilities.
    • Monitors the quality of services provided by the Service Partners to programs in the area of Disability.
    • Conducts monitoring visits and reviews disabilities folders, plans, Part C & Local Education Agency (LEA) agreements, and mental health service provider contracts.
    • Ensures all documentation regarding interventions, follow-up, and feedback to staff and parents is completed by the Mental Health Consultant and therapy services providers.
    • Monitors, tracks, and supports the development of children's IFSP/IEP implementation plans.
    • Conducts classroom observations upon request and provides feedback to Grantee, Family Engagement, Mental health staff/consultants, and teaching staff.
    • Promotes coordination and integration of Education, Disabilities, Mental Health, and Health services teams.
    • Develop training, resources, and technical assistance to address the EHS-CCP program needs at the Grantee level.
    • Participates in the evaluation of EHS-CCP program services through the annual self-assessment/validation process.
    • Assists in the development and review of the EHS-CCP Disabilities work plan.
    • Participates in the Grantee training and technical assistance planning process around Disabilities and Mental Health services as needed.
    • Maintains up-to-date files and case notes on all work performed.
    • Makes recommendations for systems that are needed to support the area of Disabilities.
    • Ensures the Disabilities and Mental Health services are provided promptly as stated in the contract and programs are meeting Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards.
    • Serves as a cooperative member of the Grantee Support Services Team.
    • Implements and coordinates Disabilities/Mental Health Coordinator Quarterly Content Area Meetings.
    • Works in collaboration with Part C and LEA stakeholders as well as other organizations in the community to create collaborative agreements to access services and support children with suspected or identified disabilities.
    • Become proficient in the use of Child Plus for the management and documentation of all work done with children, families, and partnering organizations.
    • In collaboration with care providers, develop the transition plan for all children with disabilities.
    • Ensures each child with a diagnosed disability has an IFSP that is updated annually with parent participation and consent; Orders equipment and materials, as appropriate, to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
    • Supports staff in meeting all 45-day requirements related to EHS.
    • Keep parents abreast of all programs for all children receiving their therapies at the early care and education centers.

    Requirements:

    Education Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related field is required. Masters preferred. 15 Professional Development (In-Service) hours per year, including CPR.

    Experience Requirements: Two years of experience in the field of Disabilities is desirable. Experience working with teachers, and young children and their families. Experience in a Head Start/Early Head Start or similar early childhood program.
