    TitleUrban Outfitters Staff AccountantReports toAccounting ManagerOverviewThe Staff Accountant will support store and ecommerce channels of the Urban Outfitters Brand in all financial and accounting aspects that directly affect the operational results.

    This position will provide support for key projects, process improvements and efficiencies. It is expected that this role anticipates, plans, and works proactively to meet monthly deadlines.

    ResponsibilitiesAssist in the generation, preparation, and review of monthly financial statements/packages, as well as various internal reporting documentsRecord, reconcile, and analyze monthly activity in various income statements (including ad hoc analyses)Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley financial reporting requirements with respect to monthly dutiesAssist and prepare the annual operational budgets of assigned expense item responsibilities as neededPrepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliationsPrepare and maintain expense trackers for operational departmentsAnalyze actual results, investigate, and explain variance explanations vs budget & previous yearConsistently recommend and implement improvements to current methodologies and practicesSupport all other aspects of the monthly and quarterly financial close process.

    Provide ongoing accounting/finance support to brand partners as liaison between brand and corporate shared service teamsReview management and operating reports to identify trends and develop benchmarking metricsWork with brand finance team/division related projectsQualifications1-2 years of work experience, preferably in accounting, finance, or business analysis, with a strong knowledge of financial/accounting principlesRetail or apparel industry experience preferredHighly proficient in MS Excel and ability to learn accounting software packages; Knowledge of Oracle and/or Hyperion a strong plusAbility to comprehend and analyze financial statements, financial journals, reports, reconciliations, and other related documentsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peer group, brand personnel and executive level managementJob SkillsWell-developed problem-solving capabilities.

    Highly detail oriented with strong organizational skillsCapable of managing multiple deliverables and ability to seamlessly transition among teamExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong sense of accountability and ownership.

    Intellectually curious with a strong desire to learn and grow with the companyEducationBachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
