THE ROLE The Transportation Engineer Trainee position is currently available in the Central Surveys, Geodetic Surveys section in the Bureau of Engineering & Construction. The Geodetic Surveys Unit is responsible for overseeing all geodetic control and GPS Base Stations.

Survey Operations provides support for construction and design projects as well as providing mapping and surveying services for the Division of Rights of Way, Office of Maintenance, and the Bureaus of Policy & Planning and Public Transportation. The Department's Survey Offices also maintain Right of Way mapping for the State's highway boundaries, geodetic control points, and state and town line data, along with ancient highway and turnpike records. Surveying is comprised of boundary, geodetic, location/photogrammetry, and construction disciplines and are staffed by a cadre of Licensed Land Surveyors.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Airport Authority this class is accountable for receiving training in introductory professional engineering work for the development of technical and professional transportation engineering and transportation construction engineering skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement in the field of transportation engineering.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Possession of a Bachelor's degree. NOTE: If the target job classification has a Minimum Qualification that requires specific licensure and/or the Bachelor's degree to be in a specific area(s), then these specific licensures and degree areas are required for appointment to the Transportation Engineer Trainee classification.
