Summary/Objective:


The Tool & Die Specialist is responsible for maintaining production, quality performance levels and the efficient use of manufacturing equipment in accordance with his/her knowledge and training in conformance with established Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions, and Good Manufacturing Practice.

Utilizes in-depth knowledge of machining, production equipment, and trade expertise in the daily operation of production equipment.


Essential Functions / Four Most Important Tasks:

  • Works from general instructions with mínimal need for supervision and/or technical assistance.
  • Responsible for the fabrication of new or replacement parts, working to close tolerances.
  • Dismantles and reassembles machinery as required to maintain and/or restore equipment to proper working condition.
  • Maintains required records with regard to inspections, testing, maintenance and repairs of equipment and tooling.

Responsibilities:


  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of all compression moulding tools and die stamping equipment.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of compression moulds (TLCM) for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as callipers, gauge blocks, micrometres, and dial indicators;
  • Collaborates with Manufacturing and Engineering teams, and tooling partners when required, to provide recommendations associated with modifications and or maintenance needed to support existing compression moulding tools and dies.
  • Cleaning of moulds and dies, install and test as well as remove safely all moulds and dies as needed.
  • Interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, electronic, or schedule form.
  • Adheres to all safety rules in accordance with SOP's, GMP as well as federal, state and local safety regulations. Expected to demonstrate our Company values and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required in order to meet production needs of customers. Willingness to work in shifts (late or early hours, weekends, and overtime if necessary)
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement. Works conscientiously and accurately, recognizes details. Identifies problems in time and strives to solve them. Observes rules and instructions. Collaborates on DPS initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in department or quality team meetings. Suggests improvements and works alone or with others to implement improvements, as assigned.
  • Trains new technicians and/or trainees as requested.

Job requirements:


  • Routine cleaning of tools and dies utilizing specialized treatments, pressure washer, heat table, and selfcontained bead blasting.
  • Setting up and operating conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes;
  • Visualizing and computing dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications;
  • Inspecting finished surfaces for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects;
  • Fitting and assembling parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools; filing, grinding, shimming, and adjusting different parts to properly fit them together; lifting, positioning, and securing machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists
