    Founded in 1929, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc.

    is an African American, nonprofit social services agency committed to serving the needs of community members of all ages, abilities, races, cultures and economic levels in the Summit-University neighborhood and greater Twin Cities area.

    Over the years, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc.

    has evolved from an independent human services provider to a multi-service center, and is the administrative body of the Martin Luther King Service Center, which houses our partners offering specialized services and programs., including Project Cheer, Prepare + Prosper, the St.

    Paul Branch of the NAACP, the African American Leadership Council, and the nationally-recognized Penumbra Theatre Company.

    Wages & Benefits
    $26 - $30 hourly wage; 11 Paid Holidays plus accrued paid time off; company-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and short-term and long-term disability; health savings account; company-sponsored retirement plan with automatic enrollment, a 10% employer contribution after 1 year of service, immediate vesting, and 100% employer matching on the first 5% of employee contributions and paid parental leave for eligible employees.

    A typical day as Hallie Q.

    Brown's Development Associate provides an opportunity to support the development and fundraising efforts of the organization and will include the following responsibilities:


    Supporting agency fundraising efforts under the direction of the Director of Development & Advancement including assisting with the annual gala and grant writing.

    Administering and maintaining the donor database.
    Processing gifts and in-kind donations and ensuring proper acknowledgement/receipt is sent.
    Supporting the agency development plan to effectively promote the organization, educate the public, and maximize fundraising efforts.
    Representing the agency with donors and supporters through friendly, professional communications.
    Assuming the key role in Hallie Q. Brown's membership with Guidestar and Charity Navigator
    Researching best practices for creating major donor campaigns.
    Creating a plan to reach top five donors – both in years and gift amounts.
    Developing a thorough understanding of Hallie Q. Brown's programs and staffing in order to best match donors with Hallie Q. Brown staff by area of interest.

    Working with the Director of Development & Advancement to create a method of recognizing major donors in social media, publications, and at the annual gala.

    Becoming familiar with each cohort of volunteers.
    Participating in training and orientation of volunteers.
    Creating a system to continue contact with volunteers after their tenure (collect non university emails, etc.).
    Cultivating meaningful and sustainable relationships with volunteers after they conclude their work with Hallie Q. Brown.
    Actively and positively contributing to the mission and work environment.
    Who You Are

    You have an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree in a relevant field, or you have demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and life experience.

    You have a minimum of two years of work experience in fundraising, development, or marketing/communications.
    You have an interest in the human services nonprofit sector; experience working in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
    A knowledge of the Rondo area is preferred.
    You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    You have the ability to work well with different teams and work comfortably with large and small groups of unfamiliar people.

    You have the ability to listen and learn, especially from people whose lived experience differs from your own.
    You are highly detail-oriented with the ability to produce and interpret donor data.
    You possess the desire to cultivate meaningful professional relationships with colleagues and donors (current and prospective).
    You demonstrate a willingness to learn a variety of tasks.
    You demonstrate an understanding of the importance of customer service and being professional.
    You demonstrate knowledge and experience working with diverse groups of people of different socioeconomic conditions.
    You are competent in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    You possess strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
    You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Hallie Q. Brown's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was

    issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
