We provide students a transformative leadership experience, pushing the boundaries of knowledge with faculty research, and offering a portfolio of entrepreneurial and non-degree programs that deliver global impact like no other. We are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in service of our mission of developing innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change lives, change organizations, and change the world. We invite you to be part of this mission.

The Director, Development of the Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks an Associate Director of Major Gifts. The Associate Director is a frontline fundraiser responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals able to make gifts in the $250,000 - $5,000,000 range. In this role, you will manage major gift efforts in the Bay Area (CA) key domestic market.

The school's priorities are primarily focused on the core MBA, PhD, and MSx programs, GSB faculty support and growth, the global reach of the school, and strong collaboration with broader Stanford University. In this role, you act with exceptional professionalism, you have the ability to think strategically, and you have significant fundraising success with five or more years in direct fundraising and major gifts.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to plan and implement a specific fundraising program for the GSB. This will allow you to operate independently in your assigned areas and take responsibility for prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities. Yu will have the opportunity to work with staff, faculty, donors, and volunteers to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with all university constituencies.

    Your primary responsibilities include:
    • Cultivate and solicit gifts to the GSB.
    • Manage an active portfolio, and track solicitation assignments and progress. Work with a portfolio of assigned prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support.
    • Develop relationships leading to gifts in the $250,000 - $5,000,000 range.
    • A wide range of fundraising activities, including maintaining an active portfolio, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, and provide stewardship through personal visits, virtual visits, and phone calls.
    • Stay informed on current GSB initiatives and activities and engage in the life of the school.
    • Gain familiarity with assigned regions, and travel to those areas with regularity.
    • Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, make volunteer assignments as appropriate, and collaborate with volunteers on assigned solicitations.
    • Provide staff support for the GSB Dean, senior leaders, faculty, and high-level volunteers locally and in assigned regions.
    • Work closely with colleagues in GSB External Relations, GSB faculty, and other GSB colleagues to align program goals with the overall fundraising goals of the GSB.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with development colleagues in the Stanford Office of Development and with other schools and units.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:
    • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.
    • Ability and willingness to travel frequently, with possible 10-12 trips per year, and an activity goal of 12-15 visits per month.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with OOD colleagues as well as within the schools and units, to achieve strategic fundraising results.

    In addition, preferred requirements include:
    • Knowledge of, and appreciation for, the mission of a major research university, and the ability to represent the breadth of the university and its priorities, is highly desirable.
