Stanford Medicine is comprised of Stanford University School of Medicine, a premier research-intensive medical school, and Stanford Health Care, a hospital and clinic system that is nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology. Stanford's top-ranking Medical Center Development (MCD) team continues to build upon the generous support of its donor community and is in the early stages of launching the next major fundraising effort for Stanford Medicine with newly defined philanthropic priorities in alignment with the Stanford University-wide strategic vision. The professional in this position will be focused on raising philanthropic support for programmatic and capital initiatives at Stanford Health Care and will report to the Senior Director of Stanford Health Care, Medical Center Development. If you possess the requisite experience, sensitivity, diplomacy, and capacity to work autonomously while representing Stanford Medicine, this position could be well-suited for you. As the Senior Associate Director of Development, you will have the strategic skills necessary to balance prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities while building donor centric, meaningful, relationships. You will work with hospital leadership, volunteers, and other university constituencies to establish and maintain stellar relationships on behalf of Stanford Medicine. Additionally, you will partner with other "specialists" (fundraisers with strategic responsibility for a specific department or initiative, faculty management, and prospect portfolios) and "generalists" (fundraisers focused primarily on prospect portfolios) within MCD and other fundraisers across the university to cultivate potential donors for Stanford Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford University. Job PurposeThe position will manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major gifts prospects capable of making a gift between $250,000 - $10M. Core fundraising for this role will focus on SHC capital and programmatic priorities, including a bold new vision for comprehensive cancer care in the region. The position will also be responsible for building and spearheading the fundraising efforts for the SHC Tri-Valley hospital in the East Bay and will serve as the primary point of contact at MCD for the CEO and leadership team at SHC Tri-Valley.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting philanthropic goals, objectives, and strategies for Stanford Health Care.Working with internal partners and the SHC team to develop a strategic fundraising plan for MCD efforts across the SHC enterprise, with particular focus on SHC Tri-Valley.Managing a portfolio of approximately 125 donors, to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support; tracking engagement strategies, solicitations and progress.Taking responsibility for a wide range of fundraising activities, including maintaining an active level of contacts, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, providing stewardship, and coordinating volunteer fundraising efforts, as needed.Establishing and actively managing relationships with MCD colleagues, department leadership, faculty members, and clinical and administrative staff, in order to continuously grow the prospect pipeline.Developing relationships of mutual respect and trust with the CEO and leadership team at SHC Tri-Valley as well as faculty in the East Bay which constitute a critical portal for prospects.Preparing SHC leadership for donor meetings, responding to donor requests for information and written proposals, and engaging with volunteers to assist with cultivation/solicitation where appropriate.Staying informed on current initiatives and activities at Stanford Medicine.Working with MCD staff, donors, volunteers, and other university staff to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with all university constituencies.Working closely with other development colleagues to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization.
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.Proven ability to meet fundraising goals with a growing confidence in managing and balancing donor/faculty/lay leader relationships.Demonstrated high integrity and trustworthiness.Have a strong collegial, collaborative style and ability to drive results.Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders. Ability to translate complex concepts and scientific strategies into compelling development proposals, communications, and conversations.Advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite.
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
- May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.Valid passport for international travel.
