    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Huckleberry Youth Programs (HYP) seeks an experienced, creative and entrepreneurial Senior Director of Development (SDD) to lead day-to-day operations of our unrestricted individual and institutional giving work. The SDD oversees individual giving, events, marketing and communications, volunteerism, and unrestricted institutional giving programs. They lead a team of experienced and passionate front-line fundraising staff in coordination with the full Development team. The SDD is responsible for carrying out a variety of fundraising strategies to ensure fundraising goals are met. They will manage their own portfolio soliciting major gifts, individual, and institutional donors. The SDD is an integral part of a passionate and dedicated team with a shared mission to increase effective engagement with the philanthropic community. Finally, the SDD will work closely with senior leadership, including the CEO/Executive Director and Board of Directors, to help them manage and steward their own portfolios of donors.

    Working directly with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), leadership team, and the Board, the SDD will develop and implement a fundraising and donor strategy that effectively moves existing and prospective individual donors, families, family foundations, and corporate donors from identification to solicitation. The SDD will be capable of cultivating and managing relationships with high value donors that lead to increased, consistent and diverse revenue for the organization. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the trends impacting the fundraising landscape. They will be a strategic thinker who is able to mobilize internal and external resources to build relationships and maximize fiscal outcomes for the agency. This includes, but is not limited to, continuing to develop an innovative major gifts program, a planned giving program, developing differentiated/segmented donor experiences that lead to increased unrestricted funding, leading a team of seasoned fundraisers, overseeing and contributing to marketing and communications, special events, volunteerism, and helping to develop data management and reporting standards. The SDD will provide critical support and staffing for the CDO and for the Board and its Development Committee. The SDD is a member of the Senior Leadership Team for Development and will provide critical support to the CDO and CEO.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Develop and implement an innovative, thoughtful and ambitious fundraising strategy to support an annual operating budget of more than $8.5 million (and growing).
    2. Cultivate and solicit major and smaller gifts from prospective foundations, corporations, and individuals; inspire the CEO and Board to do the same.
    3. Secure contributions of $25,000 or more. The SDD will be charged with consistently adding major gift prospects to their portfolio and will support the CEO on his major gifts strategy.
    4. Manage the development and execution of annual appeals, matching gift opportunities, and other giving campaigns.
    5. Manage the strategy, planning, and execution of all major and minor fundraising events and activities to educate, inspire and uplift major donors, donor prospects, and volunteers.
    6. Implement best practices to enhance and continuously improve the day-to-day activities of an effective, efficient institutional and individual giving team.
    7. Oversee a prospect tracking system and donor database, ensuring accurate and efficient tracking of donor information and timely acknowledgment of gifts.
    8. Design and execute annual plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors that will meet or exceed yearly donor engagement and revenue goals.
    9. Lead individual and institutional giving, events, and marketing and communications personnel to not only reach, but surpass their annual fundraising and activity goals.
    10. Represent HYP with external constituency groups such as funders, program partners, Board Members, elected officials, community members and others, as needed.
    11. In partnership with CDO, oversee budget development and monitoring for any and all major gifts fundraising activities and produce internal and external reports regarding projected and achieved goals.
    COMPETENCIES:
    1. History of success in cultivating and closing five- and six- figure major gifts, developing donor strategies, and effectively cultivating and stewarding major donors.
    2. Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external constituents, including Board members, senior management, program staff, and finance.
    3. Must be committed to authentic diversity, equity, inclusion, collaboration, and belonging.
    4. Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times regarding financial information.
    5. Strong working knowledge of the broad philanthropic landscape, prospect research methodology, best practices, and evolving trends in philanthropy.

    7. Maintain the confidentiality of all organization procedures, results and information about donors, members, and volunteers.
    8. Perform other duties as assigned in a positive manner.
    9. Ability to balance integrity of program services with the needs of fundraising.
    10. Strong written and verbal communication skills; passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills.
    11. Passion, humility, humor, integrity, vision, curiosity, flexibility, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-direction are all crucial skills for success in this role.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position supervises the Director of Fundraising, Director of Marketing and Events, and, for purposes of unrestricted funding, the Director of Individual and Institutional Giving.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    This position operates as a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days in HYP's Administrative Offices and 3 days remote. The HYP Administrative Offices are located in San Francisco and are accessible by public transportation.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    1. Seven plus years of fundraising experience in a leadership position, including a record of success in expanding donor bases through cultivation and stewardship, demonstrating a solid track record with developing and maintaining relationships with individual and corporate donors, securing foundation grants, and overseeing fundraising events.
    2. Proven track record of soliciting and securing major gifts and executing major fundraising events.
    3. Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and motivate the team, CEO/Executive Director and Board of Directors to carry out fundraising duties.
    4. Ability to scale up fundraising events and activities.
    5. Experience building and managing a fundraising team and developing fundraising systems, processes and strategies.
