    Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty Track Director

    The Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PCPNP) Specialty Track Director provides leadership for faculty, students, and staff in the primary care pediatric nurse practitioner specialty track of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

    The PCPNP Specialty Track Director also provides input for teaching assignments, and oversight for teaching methods and strategies, student clinical placement, and curriculum development and evaluation.

    Additionally, the PCPNP Specialty Track Director ensures that specialty track activities are consistent with the vision, mission, values, and strategic goals of the College of Nursing, as well as the national organizations guiding PNP specialty track and DNP program accreditation.


    Principal Functions and Responsibilities:
    a) Provide leadership in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and coursework for the PCPNP specialty track in collaboration with faculty and various community partners.

    b) Coordinate the admission process in accordance with University and College policies and guidelines and with Student Services and the other DNP specialty tracks.

    c) Facilitate student applications for scholarships and funding opportunities.

    d) Assume shared responsibility for PCPNP student progression and advising, programs of study, student and faculty orientation, course evaluation, annual program evaluation, graduation activities, and other accountabilities as assigned.

    e) Work collaboratively with the Academic Program Manager for the DNP Programs to support student recruitment and retention.

    f) Collaborate with University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and other community agencies to strengthen the PCPNP specialty track.


    g) Maintain regular communication with the Assistant Dean of the Master of Science (MS) and DNP Programs and/or Executive Director for Nurse Practitioner Education, and the Associate Dean of Academic Programs.

    h) Promote a welcoming environment within the College of Nursing.

    i) Work collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of the MS and DNP Programs and/or Executive Director for Nurse Practitioner Education to maintain accreditation status and ensure integration of national standards of practice for the specialty track and DNP program.

    j) Provide input regarding faculty performance appraisals and evaluations within the specialty area and recommendations for faculty teaching assignments in collaboration with the Division Chair.

    k) Facilitate the resolution of issues and concerns in the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of the PNP track in DNP program.

    l) Complete necessary documentation for student credentialing, licensure, and letters of references as requested.


    Criteria/Experience and Qualifications:
    a) Graduate of an accredited College or School of Nursing and either hold a current Utah APRN License or be qualified to attain a Utah APRN License.

    b) Hold national certification as a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner.


    c) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing or a related field, or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is required.

    d) Eligible for appointment as a Career-Line or Tenure-Line Assistant Professor or higher rank.

    e) Strong and contemporary working knowledge of nursing profession, nursing education, higher education, and health care delivery.

    f) Demonstrated leadership and participation in accreditation, curriculum development and evaluation, academic advisement, and admissions processes.

    g) Demonstrated leadership and ability to work collaboratively and productively with individuals and interdisciplinary groups.

    h) Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collegial and respectful work and educational environment.

    i) Exemplary record of scholarly achievement commensurate with rank.

    Appointment:
    The PCPNP Track Director position is an administrative appointment and will include 20% administrative effort. The remaining 80% FTE will be allocated toward teaching, research or scholarship, service, and/or clinical practice.

    The PCPNP Track Director is a 12 month appointment for three consecutive years, with annual review and the option for reappointment.

    The concurrent faculty appointment will vary depending upon the track and rank of the faculty hire according to the College of Nursing criteria and university regulations.


    Responsible to:

    The Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Assistant Dean of the MS and DNP Programs, and Executive Director for Nurse Practitioner Education.


    Review & Evaluation:

    With input from DNP program specialty track directors, faculty, and other assistant and associate deans, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Assistant Dean of the MS and DNP Programs, and Executive Director for Nurse Practitioner Education will formally review the PCPNP Specialty Track Director every three years.
