    The Next Generation Therapeutics (NGTx) team is focused on using novel modalities to deliver medicines for chronic pain and neurodegenerative disorders at speed.

    With high growth in this field, the Lilly Institute for Genetic Medicines is under construction, which will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the teams dedicated to developing innovative RNA, oligonucleotide, gene and genomic based therapeutic agents.

    Responsibilities:

    • Leadership and project management
    • Leading a small group of data scientists, talent supervision/development, setting annual team objectives, day-to-day organization and prioritization of work
    • Effectively communicate strategy, goals and progress to internal and external stakeholders including collaborators, key opinion leaders and partners.
    • Help hire, lead, coach and mentor team members and develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with internal colleagues at all levels.
    • Stats/data handling/computational biology analysis
    • Perform statistical analyses and modelling in collaboration with statisticians to evaluate efficacy, PK and PD of novel treatments
    • Assess the scientific and technical integrity of algorithms and statistical techniques used within the analysis pipeline
    • Data/sample pipeline development/integration/management using FAIR data principles.
    • Develop data pipelines for the rapid automation and analysis of study data
    • Create data structures for the storage, integration and secondary analysis of data
    • Prevent analysis bottlenecks by utilizing high performance computing capabilities
    • Responsible for code management of the team and ensuring research is reproducible
    • Software solutions: image analysis, machine learning and AI
    • Apply machine-learning methods (e.g. deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative adversarial networks) to biological imaging data to evaluate temporal and spatial effects of novel targets
    • Perform secondary analyses to create additional value from Lilly's data assets, create high quality data visualizations and present research findings to the scientific community

    Basic Requirements:

    • PhD degree in computer and information sciences, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, computational biology/chemistry with a minimum of 3 years' experience, or PhD in Biology, or life science field with minimum of 4 years' experience in data sciences

    Additional Preferences:

    • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated efficiency in collaborating across functional boundaries
    • Practical experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry
    • Experience in RNAi discovery, especially in siRNA design
    • Bioinformatics and omics experience (expression, targets, mapping, models/assays)
    • Postgraduate school experience in one or more of the following areas: bioinformatics, cheminformatics, computational chemistry and machine-learning
    • Demonstrated experience in processing, organizing, analyzing and visualizing complex data and information from disparate sources and ability to extract insight from data
    • Health and research data literacy with the ability to create and curate databases and knowledge graphs for analysis
    • Extensive experience in solving scientific problems using programming languages (R/ Python/ C++) and developing visualizations (e.g. JavaScript and Rshiny or Flask platforms)
    • Extensive experience in data extraction and manipulation (e.g. SQL, GraphQL and Cypher)
    • Experience working with Cloud (AWS) and High-Performance Computing environments (e.g. Kubernetes and grid engine)
