About the Role:

Disease Area X, a department within the Biomedical Research (BR) group of Novartis, focuses on diseases of critical human organs, including kidney, lung, and liver.

We are seeking a scientist to join our interdisciplinary pharmacology team (Discovery and Translational Pharmacology) in support of our efforts to progress novel medicines toward the clinic, with an emphasis on renal diseases.

In this role, you will be involved in executing and troubleshooting in vivo and ex vivo studies to identify new therapeutic targets, and to test and validate novel medicines.


Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform animal handling, dosing techniques & tissue collection.
  • Implement ex-vivo bio-analysis on generated samples.
  • Work to execute, analyze, and troubleshoot high quality in vivo studies in line with project needs and timelines.
  • Support the development of new in vivo models for chronic kidney diseases and other therapeutic areas.
  • Work collaboratively in a highly team-oriented and matrix environment.
  • Clearly present results and data to teams within Disease Area X and across BR.
  • Work in compliance with the Novartis Code of Conduct and in accordance with Novartis guidelines on health and safety and data recording.

  • Essential Requirements:
  • BS in Life Sciences and minimum 2 years related laboratory experience in an academic or industrial drug discovery setting in an in vivo role.
  • Proficiency with in vivo procedures in rodents including multiple dose routes of administration (especially PO, but familiarity/proficiency with IV, SC, and/or IP is preferred), blood/tissue collection and necropsies.
  • Experience with biochemical assays (e.g. ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting etc.) and/or tissue culture/cell biology.
  • Demonstrate ability to quickly learn and perform in new areas, implement new techniques and instrumentation, critical problemsolving and multitasking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in computer use and laboratory software programs.
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication (English) and organizational skills.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Experience with rodent models of chronic kidney disease.
  • Experience in complex cellular models and/or ex vivo systems or explants.

Benefit Summary:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $84,000 to $126,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.

Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
