    Job Summary:

    Our client in Akron, OH is looking for a Material Development support Engineer I. This is a contract position.

    What You Will Do:

  • To perform advanced or specialized engineering duties generally focused on new product design, application testing of new technology and improvement of performance deviation. Primarily convert new tiredesigntomeetdesigntargetspecification andensurethatplantproduction equipment&specifications.
  • Support R&Dand plant byinterfacing with plant manufacturing,engineering & other internal& external organizations. Ensure product & quality systems integrity. Ensure plant & corporate design manual requirements are being followed.
  • Implementnewproducts&processes&resolveproductperformanceissues.
  • Lead and manage the optimization of the manufacturing process for both legacy and next generation products. You will actas thedesign and process engineering expert for all themanufacturing site.
  • Initialtrainingwillincludeformal classesandon-the-jobmentoringunderanexperiencedengineer.

  • Inordertomaintaincloseandsuccessful communication withrelateddepartments, must take a positive and creative attitude.
  • LearnandContributesand/orsupportssmallprojectsorprocessesofcomplex scope, with limited oversight from management.
  • Assistsinthedevelopmentofoperationalplanandimplementsforareasof assigned responsibilities.
  • Support to apply andbenchmark potential newtechnologies,products andtest method development bydeveloping and validating theories onthephysical, chemicaland/ormechanicalpropertiesofmaterialsandingredientsundervarious conditions.
  • Documentandenforcetechnologyandqualitystandards;developandcontrol quality management systems and technical specifications.
  • Makesrecommendationsconcerning acquisitionanduseofnewtechnologies and testing equipment to support business needs.
  • Learnandevaluateinternalandcustomer audits;publishtheresults;implement and follow up with corrective actions.
  • Workwithinternalcustomerstounderstand theirtestingneedsandwork collaboratively to create new test methods.
  • SystematicallyidentifycausesofproblemsandidentifypossiblesolutionsinaPlan -Do-Check-Actmethodology.
  • Communicate regularlywiththeManufacturing UnitsandR&Dtoensureefficient information sharing.
  • In order forthenew material andtechnology ofR&Dtobewellappliedtotheplant, it should act a role ofcommunication between the plant andR&D.
  • Understandtheproductdevelopmentprocessandmaterialspecificationdesignto ensure quality, andbeable to analyze processing evaluation result.
  • Presentprojectstatusandprojectclosurestointernalcustomersandupper managements.
  • Mayparticipateinintellectualpropertyevaluationsanddevelopmentofpatent applications.
  • Contributetocrossfunctionalteamsindesignatedarea/processon various improvementsand projects.
  • Performsotherdutiesasassignedbynewproductdevelopment, feasibilityreview and other activities as required.
  • Evaluaterawmaterialsforproductuse,includingrubbercompounds, reinforcing materials, andrubber chemicals, byanalyzing laboratoryandtireevaluations of materials.
  • Coordinate programstoevaluatethemixing,extruding,calendaring, andcuring characteristicsof newmaterials in a manufacturing environment.
  • Supportmanufacturing inresolvingquality,processing,andperformanceissues related to raw materials used in regular production.
  • Develop andmanagethesupplierbaseforcurrent andnewmaterials andInteract with the company's R&D center in Korea.
  • Developandapplytheknowledge andskillstointerpret physicalpropertytestingof rubbers, including hysteresis,visco-elasticity, fatigue-failure, crack-growth, adhesion, tensile, tear, abrasion, etc.
  • Develop and applytheknowledge and skills to interpret standard analytical tests suchasFourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Thermo Gravimetric Analysis, and Gas Chromatography,Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Scanning Electron Microscopy,TransmissionElectronMicroscopy,andNuclearMagneticResonance analysis.
  • EffectivelyapplyDesignofExperimentsprinciplesandstatisticalanalysis.

    • What You Will Need:

    Basics:

  • Bachelor's degree required; field of science or learning major required.
  • O+ years of proven engineering experience in themanufacturing industry.
  • Excellent commandof writtenand spokenEnglish; bothconversational andtechnical.
  • Knowledge of designtechniques, tools,andprinciples involved in productionof precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of thepractical application of engineering science and technology. Thisincludesapplyingprinciples, techniques, procedures, andequipment to the designandproductionofvariousgoodsandservices.
  • Knowledge ofraw materials,productionprocesses, qualitycontrol, costs,and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture anddistribution of goods.
  • Knowledge ofarithmetic, algebra,geometry,calculus, statistics, kinetics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, includingtheir designs, uses,repair,and maintenance.
  • Clearly understanding of the phenomenon and be able to communicate information effectively, able topayattention to whatothers aresaying,ask the right questions, and be fully understanding.
  • Analyzeproblems withvarious approaches andproposesolutions in newways. Should able to present thestrengths and weaknesses of the solution.
  • Identifying complex problems andreviewingrelatedinformation todevelop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Communicatingeffectivelyinwritingasappropriatefortheneedsoftheaudience.
  • Target basedplanningandactionrequired.
  • Usingexcellent timemanagement skillsto successfully workonmultiple projects at once. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Must beabletofrequently moveabout themanufacturing plant campus, general office environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs.
  • Mustbeabletoremainina stationaryposition 50%ofthetime.
  • Mustbeabletooperateacomputerandotherofficeproductivitymachinery.
  • Mustbeabletopositionself tofiledocuments including the top andbottom drawersof file cabinets.
  • Mustbeabletooccasionallymoveofficeequipmentandsuppliesweighingupto25pounds.

    • Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree (Chemical/ Material Science Engineering major preferred); advanced degree in a related field preferred.
