    BCIT Summer Internship - Project Management

    As an Intern at The Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology in the Executive Project Management Office, our program will:


    Provide opportunities for secondary/higher education students to serve as technical interns within the government industry and work alongside experienced IT professionals in an increasingly challenging and fast paced atmosphere.


    Interns will obtain feedback from their managers throughout the program, as well as assistance with managing roadblocks along the way.

    Beginning with virtual orientation, interns will benefit from various aspects of BCIT's culture.


    • 1 on 1 meetings with the Department Intern Manager
    • Weekly Chew & Chats Fridays (virtual games & exciting ice breakers)
    • BCIT All Staff Meetings
    • Learning Opportunities in Field of Interest (When Available)
    The BCIT Project Management Internship may include the following areas:

    Rank BCIT metrics based on priority for auditing:

    • The intern will need to start by creating a matrix of each of the metrics which are tracked by BCIT. After creating this list they can begin putting them into a matrix based off of each metric's impact and reproducibility.
    • As the intern works through this project, they will start to better understand not only what we are tracking, but also how and why we are tracking it. These insights will help them understand how KPIs are chosen in an IT environment, as well as allow them to update their matrix as they become more familiar with our various metrics and Service Areas.
    • Once their matrix is finalized, they will be able to rank metrics by priority for auditing, as well as create a framework for how metrics should be ranked in the future.

    Create an automated tool for auditing:

    • Using the ranked list the intern will produce a tool which will notify the current Point of Contact (POC) for BCIT Stat which metrics need to be audited, and when, based on the metric's priority. Once an audit is completed, the tool will link to documentation for that audit and update the last audited date.
    • This tool can be designed with a low-to-no code solution via SharePoint and Power Automate, however the intern will be given a degree of creative freedom to allow them to figure out how to solve complex tasks on their own.
    • After completing the POC for BCIT Stat, you will then validate that the tool works and will continue to work after the internship.
    • Following the end of the internship, you will be given the opportunity to create a presentation about this new auditing mechanism at the next BCIT Stat meeting.
    Desirable Skills and Knowledge


    • Experience working with Microsoft Office products
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Passionate about learning new skills independently
    • The ability to ask for help when you cannot figure out how to complete a task

    Requirements:

    • Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior, or have graduated from a Maryland higher education institution
    • Graduated from a Maryland high school and are currently enrolled in or graduated from a career technical training program.
    • Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
