    BCIT Summer Internship - Applications & GIS (Geographic Information System) Teams

    As an Intern at The Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology working with our Applications & GIS teams, our program will:

    Provide opportunities for secondary/higher education students to serve as technical interns within the government industry and work alongside experienced IT professionals in an increasingly challenging and fast paced atmosphere.

    Interns will obtain feedback from their managers throughout the program, as well as assistance with managing roadblocks along the way. Beginning with virtual orientation, interns will benefit from various aspects of BCIT's culture.
    • 1 on 1 meetings with the Department Intern Manager
    • Weekly Chew & Chats Fridays (virtual games & exciting ice breakers)
    • BCIT All Staff Meetings
    • Learning Opportunities in Field of Interest (When Available)
    The following are examples of work that may be performed during the Applications and GIS internship. The position may require related duties not listed, if necessary to accomplish the work of the agency:
    • Utilizes GIS software to perform data management, spatial analysis, and to design and create accurate cartographic products to support on-going projects
    • Participates in the development of geospatial applications
    • Supports content management in ArcGIS Online web portal
    • Assists with data management and publication intake process for the Open Baltimore data portal
    • Collaborates with GIS and project stakeholders in City agencies
    • Participates in project and workgroup meetings
    • Researches geospatial technologies and techniques
    Desirable Skills and Knowledge
    • Coursework in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Analytics
    • Experience using ESRI suite of software and applications, including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog), ArcGIS Pro, and Desktop extensions preferred, but not required
    • Project Management skills
    • Organization skills
    • Critical thinker
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to present recommendations clearly and concisely
    • Ability to meet work deadlines and to work on several tasks at the same time
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
    Requirements:
    • Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior, or have graduated from a Maryland higher education institution
    • Graduated from a Maryland high school and are currently enrolled in or graduated from a career technical training program.
    • Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
