    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a part-time clerical work experience student to assist the Human Resources/ Risk Management Division with clerical/administrative tasks and projects. This is a part-time, at will, unrepresented hourly position. This is an ideal way for a mature and responsible student to gain office work experience. Applicants should be available at least four afternoons per week between the hours of 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Monday - Thursday. Additional hours may be scheduled depending upon workload and student availability. Extra hours available during the summer and school time off.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    • Copy job flyers, applications, and other recruitment documents.
    • Copy and assemble employer handbooks and other packets of information for orientations.
    • Assemble and disassemble interview binders and packets.
    • Answer calls to the Human Resources/ Risk Management Department; provide general information; refer calls to appropriate staff member.
    • File documents in appropriate files.
    • Create and organize files, meeting information, and other packets as directed.
    • Prepare certificates to document training received by employees.
    • Assist Human Resources/ Risk Management staff with various clerical assignments and tasks.
    • Set-up and break-down conference room before and after interviews and meetings.
    • Perform related work as required.
    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience: Student applicants should be a current community college student or at minimum a high school junior or higher and must demonstrate proficiency in basic computer and keyboarding skills. Maturity for an office work environment required. A minimum one-year commitment to the role is needed, and applicants should apply only if they can commit to working through the school year during the afternoon hours noted for the position. A two-year commitment is considered ideal due to the substantial training associated with the position.

    Other Information
    Part-time employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Part-time employees are enrolled in the PARS retirement system with the City making an employer contribution and the employee contribution (6.2%) being deducted from your payroll check. The PARS retirement system is in lieu of participating in social security. You will, however, participate in the Medicare portion of social security as that is a required program.

    Work Hours
    Part-Time employees must have availability to work the designated work schedule for the position and must be available to work additional or less hours as needed. The maximum work hours are 25 hours per week and may not exceed 108 hours per month.

    Payroll
    All City employees are paid monthly, on the first business day of each month for the prior calendar month via direct deposit.

    Special Note
    All recreation employees will attend a once-a-year, week-long training session which usually occurs during the second week of June.
