    Description

    Job Overview

    The Risk Management Coordinator will oversee the organization's comprehensive insurance and risk management program, assessing and identifying risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security, or financial success of the organization. Responsibilities include identifying, evaluating, and minimizing the organization's exposure to loss or damage to physical assets, fidelity losses, and losses arising out of liability claims. Facilitates communications with claims adjusters, claims reviews, and investigations. Plans and coordinates with the Director of Operations functions and activities for the organization-wide safety plan.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Collaborates with cross functional teams including Finance, IT, Operations, Support Services, Programs, etc.
    • Drafts and presents risk reports and proposals to executive leadership and senior staff
    • Establishes policies and procedures to identify and address risks in the organizations' services and departments.
    • Responsible for ensuring data integrity in processing tasks in the HRIS and other organizational programs/systems
    • Compiles and analyzes data to recommend policies and procedures regarding the property and liability insurance program, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Represents the organization at meetings with representatives from a variety of public agencies, insurance companies, and risk services firms.
    Managing Risks
    • Conducts risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends.
    • Reviews and assesses risk management policies and protocols; makes recommendations and implements modifications and improvements.
    • Recommends and implements risk management solutions such as insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
    • Analyzes alternatives and treats identifiable risks with appropriate risk control and risk budgeting methods
    • Obtains certificates of insurance to protect organizational assets
    • Assists with managing claims to achieve quality results
    • Provides support, education, and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organization
    Safety & Workers Compensation

    Safety
    • Coordinates the organization's employee safety program
    • Builds relationships with chapter locations, HQ departments and direct service programs personnel to address location specific safety needs
    • Participates in the inspections and review of the organization's operations and facilities for risk management provisions and recommends appropriate corrective actions
    • Assures the organization follows laws relating to safety, industrial health, environmental protection, hazard control, and loss prevention programs
    • Takes necessary steps to ensure organizational compliance with OSHA regulations
    • Monitors OSHA files for all sites in the organization ensuring all annual summaries are posted at each site
    • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates organizational safety plans and offers recommendations for improvement.
    • Assists in implementing in-service training programs on health and safety
    Workers' Compensation
    • Investigates and analyzes accidents involving injured employees while using organizational equipment or facilities.
    • Conducts re-occurring Workers' Compensation Sites Assessment inspections of organizational facilities.
    • Establishes records and procedures for reporting and handling claims.
    • Identifies, evaluates, and minimizes the organization's exposure to injury of workers and workplace safety issues.
    • Coordinates workers' compensation claims investigation; investigates and resolves issues on claims.
    • Conducts return-to-work and light duty programs with HR (Human Resources) partner, State Employee at Injury reimbursements, and reviews recommendations of vocational rehabilitation of employees.
    • Resolves workers' compensation claims for closure; works closely with insurance adjusters (and organizational attorneys, if applicable).

    Qualifications

    Education

    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent years of applicable experience.
    Certifications

    Required:
    • OSHA General Industry 10-Hour (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
    Preferred (any or multiples of the following):
    • Certified Safety Professional
    • Certificates of Risk Management (CRM)
    • Associate Risk Manager (ARM)
    • aPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP
    • OSHA General Industry 30-Hour
    Work Experience

    Required:
    • A minimum of two (2) years in Human Resources with a at least two (2) years' experiences in workers' compensation claims and/or a safety program.
    • Thorough understanding of policies and best practices of risk management.

    • Knowledge of claims processing techniques
    • Experience preparing spreadsheets and a risk management information system
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to interpret, analyze and present information from various regulatory agencies in an appropriate form geared towards targeted audience
    • Knowledge of workers' compensation law and requirements, safety, loss control and risk management principles
    • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) law and requirements
    • Spanish fluency helpful, but not required
    • Ability to travel to various training sites, must have reliable mode of transportation
    • Must have and maintain current auto liability insurance, good driving record, and be insurable by AVANCE
    • Must have dependable transportation daily, valid driver's license, a clean driving record (subject to annual MVR check and policy), current auto liability insurance and be bondable by AVANCE, San Antonio, Inc.
    Travel

    Travel required locally or long-distance up to 70% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.

    Equipment

    Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position.

    Environmental Factors

    Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Occasional expose to weather related conditions when working in outside environment/neighborhoods and events.
