My name is Liz, and I'm a PMI-ACP Certified Agile Practitioner with experience building complex data ingestion pipelines in the legal and finance domains. The idea of parsing valuable insights from elaborate laws or business logic has always excited me. Nearing the end of my junior year as a Communication Studies major at UT Austin, I began to uncover this passion for data. As the 1st woman to receive funding from UT Austin's venture capital fund (Genesis), I developed an AI chatbot that helped entrepreneurs navigate local, state, and federal business laws. Since then, I've worked on a legal citation tool, a criminal expunction eligibility engine, and an ETL pipeline that ingests Fidelity financial account data.
You can have data. You can even gain insights from it. But ACTION on insights is critical. As a product manager, one of my responsibilities is to define the roadmap describing what our team will build next. Using facts, metrics, and data to guide strategic business decisions aligning with the company's high-level goals and budget is essential.
Benchmarks and metrics are also excellent tools to manage team productivity. Even when it's complicated, setting aside time to measure our progress is crucial. As a platform product manager at SigFig, our team achieved a 49% higher velocity after implementing changes to our Agile processes. These improvements were driven from the bottom up via feedback from team members.
