Wastewater Engineering Design Section is currently seeking an Assistant Engineer who is a motivated, energetic, team player with experience in the design of municipal wastewater facilities.

This individual will lead and support multi-discipline engineering design teams for upgrades and rehabilitation of EBMUD's leading-edge wastewater and recycled water facilities for projects ranging up to approximately $15M.

Projects may include waste-to-renewable-energy facilities and treatment, and pumping station and collection system upgrades as part of EBMUD's Wastewater Capital Improvements Program, budgeted at $395M over the next five years.

The most competitive candidates will possess significant knowledge of wastewater and recycled water design and engineering principles; wastewater pump stations and pipeline rehabilitation methods; system startup and testing for these facilities; a general understanding of wastewater treatment plant operations and regulations; pipe, open channel, and pumping system hydraulics; and project management principles and practices.

The ideal candidate's experience will include success in working on multi-discipline wastewater engineering projects; conducting engineering studies; preparing engineering designs including contract documents for bidding (plans and specifications); providing technical assistance during construction, startup, and testing; and preparing and delivering technical reports and presentations with excellent communication/interpersonal skills.

Flexible/hybrid work from home schedule may be available for some positions in this job classification.

The salary range is $11,214 per month increasing to $11,775, $12,364, $12,982 and $13,631 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements 1. A bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum accredited by ABET or a California Engineer in Training Certificate.2.

Two years* of professional civil, electrical, mechanical, control systems, geotechnical, sanitary, or structural engineering experience, at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Junior Engineer classification, after obtaining the education outlined above.3.

Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.*An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experienceEquivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

01 ENGINEERING DESIGN:

Describe your engineering design and construction support work experience on infrastructure improvement projects, with a focus on wastewater or water treatment plant upgrades, pump station and pipeline rehabilitation, renewable energy or resource recovery, and recycled water treatment.

Include your experience preparing plans and specifications for contract documents. Be specific about your role and the work for which you were responsible.

02 CALCULATIONS AND MODELING:

Describe your experience performing engineering calculations and/or modeling that involves the application of professional engineering knowledge of civil/environmental engineering activities (e.g., hydraulic pipe or open channel flow; pumping systems, pressurized piping, and/or gravity sewers; surface water hydrology and mass balance; and wastewater and water treatment).

Provide specific examples to demonstrate your experience. Include the types of software you have used.

03 WRITTEN COMMUNICATION:
Describe your experience in each of the following areas, providing specific examples:

Preparing written documents such as memos, letters, and engineering reports designed to address a variety of audiences.
Making oral presentations, including conducting and participating in meetings; and presenting papers, proposals, reports, training, and recommendations to various types of audiences.
