- Assist scientists with planting, field layout and signs for field and demo plots, data collection, taking notes and plot pictures, weeding, mowing, and maintaining plots, and harvesting when needed.
- Operate light equipment as needed such as mowers, weed whackers, and other small plot equipment.
- Process samples in a laboratory such sorting, weighing, measuring, bagging, labeling, etc. of seeds and plant tissues samples and materials for outreach and research activities.
- Drive state fleet vehicles on and off-station as needed, after taking the defensive driver training (compulsory).
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory/office in a clean and organized condition.
- Assist with field days and other public outreach events.
- Complete the required basic safety training and follow all safety protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
· Valid Driver's License and at least 18 years of age
· Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
· Positive attitude and willingness to work hard in both indoor and outside environment.
· Interest in agriculture, research, and educational work.
· Ability to work a full-time schedule in the summer.

Detailed Job Description:
The Extension and Research Summer Intern will assist the Extension Cropping Systems Specialist with agricultural research and outreach programs at the Williston Research Extension Center and off-station. Job duties will be a mix of field (outdoor) and office/laboratory work. Research duties include plants and research plots preparation, collection and data entry, demo plants and plots maintenance, laboratory duties. Outreach duties and responsibilities include but not limited to preparation of signs and labels for plants and field plots, assist with logistics needed on field days and tours, program documentation and archiving, working with other interns from other programs, guide and assists agricultural clienteles to the right information or directions, help in distribution and collection of evaluation forms, set up booths and tables, and preparation of venues and associated extension items such as signup sheets, laser pointers, printed brochures, handouts and banners, microphones, speakers, laptop and screen projectors.
The intern will work with the IPM Crop Survey and Weed Science programs.
