    Reports to: Vice-President of Development and Communications

    Location: San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid position, and candidates must be able to work in our San Francisco office 3 days per week.

    AGENCY OVERVIEW

    Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) - Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco, MEDA's mission is to strengthen low- and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development.

    MEDA is advancing strategies to create asset-building opportunities for San Francisco's Latino families and in the Mission District through: (1) our core, integrated Asset Building Programs in housing, financial capability, workforce development, and tax preparation; (2) serving as a backbone agency to advance educational achievement and family economic success through the Mission Promise Neighborhood 2-generation approach; (3) creating and preserving affordable housing and commercial real estate in the Mission District through Community Real Estate; (4) providing access to capital and business technical assistance through MEDA's CDFI, Fondo Adelante; (5) Policy & Advocacy efforts that support our mission; and (6) Sharing the Model through providing technical assistance on successful MEDA programs to local and national partners.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Director of Development is part of an eight-member Development and Communications team. The Director of Development will work with the Vice President of Development and Communications to plan, implement, and coordinate effective strategies for fundraising and fund development for MEDA. The Director of Development directs the work of a 4 FTE Development Team and is responsible for managing the full range of fund development activities and development operations for the organization. Fundraising activities include research, grant writing, and relationship cultivation with public agencies, private foundations, and corporations; collaborative fundraising planning and implementation with MEDA's local and national partners; and major donor cultivation. Additionally, the Development Team helps coordinate and implement MEDA's key stakeholder and fundraising events, which include the annual gala with revenue-enhancement strategies.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Planning and Implementation

    • Assist in developing and implementing strategies for annual fundraising efforts to support the organization's general operations and Mission Promise Neighborhood.
    • Engage in proposal design and development with program directors, pursue new funding opportunities, and prepare funding proposals.
    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit institutional prospects and prioritize new opportunities.
    • Provide oversight and quality control for the grant writing process and contribute to the grant writing process as needed.
    • Coordinate and manage collaborative fundraising applications to institutional funders with MEDA's local and national partners.
    • Utilize MEDA's Salesforce data system to ensure that all grants in process, applied for, and received are appropriately tracked, documented, reported on, and accounted for. Coordinate these efforts with finance, compliance, evaluation, and program staff.
    • Organize institutional funder site visits and meetings in collaboration with the CEO, COO, Program Directors, and the Development Team.
    • Develop and implement systems and processes associated with fundraising, including but not limited to: grants calendar, grants management, reporting, grant compliance, funder communications, donor data tracking in Salesforce, and funder acknowledgment.
    Administration and Leadership
    • Provide effective and supportive coaching skills to manage a diverse and collaborative 4 FTE Development Team.
    • Work with administration/operations as needed to create systems for grant management, implementation, and compliance.
    • Develop and enhance MEDA's relationships with key constituencies via networking, public speaking, presenting, and other relationship-building activities.
    • Support the Vice-President and the Philanthropic Engagement Manager in their work with the Board of Directors' fundraising efforts.
    • Contribute to the reporting process through the creation of narrative reports and providing quality control.
    • Work closely with risk management, compliance, and finance teams to ensure reconciliation of all contributed income, tracking of revenue, pledges, and gifts, and grant reports that are consistent with goals and deliverables for foundation, government, and corporate funding.
    • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to ensure effective messaging and branding for fundraising initiatives.
    • Stay current on best practices and developments in the field of development and fundraising.
    Events Management
    • Collaborate with team members to plan, coordinate, and implement key stakeholder and fundraising events. Event activities include managing event budgets, timelines, vendor relationships, registrations, logistics, marketing, and post-event close-out tasks. Events include an annual gala, donor tours, a scholarship drive, and other fundraising and stakeholder events as identified.
    • Ensure revenue-generating events meet goals and manage post-event close-out activities, which include acknowledgments and reconciliations.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
    • Broad knowledge of fund and resource development principles, including individual giving, grant writing, donor relationships, and donor management systems and databases.
    • Substantial experience designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans for all funding streams, including major gifts, corporate, foundation, and annual giving, with a successful track record of raising funds at the 5M+ level annually.
    • Strong grant writing and editing skills, with demonstrated experience obtaining federal, state, local, and/or foundation grants.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage senior staff and board in solicitation and cultivation activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to generate and deliver persuasive and clear written and verbal communications, with strong presentation skills.
    • Experience organizing and managing donor and community events.
    • Strong people management skills, including experience and commitment to developing, managing, and coaching diverse staff.
    • Exceptional attention to detail/organization skills.
    • Technical skills for tools used by MEDA (Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Zoom).
    • Ability to understand programs and organizational budgets.
    • Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems.
    • Knowledge of fundraising principles, practices, and regulations.
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Bilingual English/ Spanish is a plus.
