    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Benefits Administrator is responsible for administering employee benefit programs, such as health and retirement plans, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

    This position requires an individual with excellent organizational and communication skills and thorough knowledge of benefit plans and regulations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by the position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
    Manage the day-to-day administration of employee benefit plans, including health, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement plans.
    Manage the family medical leaves and worker's compensation cases.
    Oversee open enrollment and ensure timely and accurate enrollment of employees.
    Analyze and respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits.
    Maintain and update benefit records.
    Analyze benefit programs for cost-effectiveness, competitive positioning, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
    Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of benefit data.
    Assist with the development and implementation of benefit communication strategies, benefit programs, and policies.
    Participate in the annual renewal process.
    Provide HR administrative support to the HR team.
    Maintain all filing for all HR Benefit-related documents.

    Knowledge of:
    general office procedures and practices.

    Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    Family Medical Leave, Worker's Compensation, COBRA, HIPPA, and ERISA and applicable state and federal laws.

    maintain clerical records and prepare reports from such records.
    deal with the high volume of work and people.
    plan, initiate, and complete work assignments with minimum direction.
    communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
    fluently read, speak, write, and comprehend the English language.
    establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with other employees, residents, the general public, and other business contacts.
    Multitask.
    learn the Munis dashboard.
    handle sensitive information while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
    drive to all city departments.
    clear a criminal background check, driver's license check, and drug test.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related field.
    One (1) year of clerical and/or administrative support, and administering employee benefit plans.

    REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
    Must possess a valid driver's license.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.

    Environment

    • Work is performed in a busy office setting working with the general public.
    Physical

    – Primary functions require sufficient ability and mobility to work in a fast-paced office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information; drive. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    Vocal

    – Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
    Vision

    – See in normal visual range with or without correction.

    Hearing :
    Hear in normal audio range with or without correction.

    HOW TO APPLY

    Preferably be currently employed with the City of East Chicago for at least one (1) year.
